Morning Cup Of Coffee And Weather

Added 507 miles this weekend, and 7 nights. Nothing terribly exciting, I went to Potato Creek (again it seems!) and spent a few days while taking training in Elkhart. Picked up some really good infomration while I was there. Then, met a couple of friends in Charlestown State park spending 3 nights there.

If you don't know, Charlestown is near Louisville and Potato Creek is in South bend --- so quite literally I drove from the center of the state north, then to the southern part, then back --- crossing the state twice. Some long hours driving there!

I rally need to fix it so I can post photos!

Most the leaves are down in our neck of the woods, so making some use of Ecoflow power station to power my corded blower and clear them off the 1/4 mile driveway before they get matted down. Got to keep the snowblower happy!

That is an endless battle! We've still got about 80% green I would estimate -- but 20% down, with a bit of color -- I think we're a little "behind" as the days were in the 80s just two weeks ago.

We've had a few days of much needed rain, and cool temperatures. I'm hoping it dries up enough to mow the leaves on the ground and blow off my driveway (not necessarily in that order) this weekend, I don't bother raking -- with a large suburban yard with many mature trees on my lot, and next to me -- its not worth the the work.

Without going into a lot of detail, I'll be somewhat busy and unavailable in the next 2-4 months and won't have much time to do this, or much else. Well, I hope anyway.

I want to make sure as much of this homeowner stuff is done before then. But it isn't likely.

Yes, an endless battle to be sure. I was hoping to get some of the forecasted rain after blowing them into the woods so they would get somewhat matted in place, and minimize their blow back into the lawn and drive, but twice now that has not worked, maybe three times will be the charm.

Our color was a bit later than usual this year too, and then seemed to go very quickly from green to brown, and then down.

My shoulders said goodbye to the rake some time ago, an unfortunate part of the aging process, and even the blower will have some ibuprofen worthy side effects, but it's the lesser of the two evils. The southwestern migration is not far off, and the fall work needs to get done.

I’m having my morning coffee and I see this guy out the window. I watched him for about ten minutes before he flew off.
We never get tired of watching those magnificent birds. We have a couple of dead trees along our shoreline that we have left standing because they are a favorite perch for the local eagles when they are fishing.
In the summer when the surrounding trees have leafed out, we don't see too much of them, but this time in the fall, and in the spring before the foliage has formed, they are a real treat to watch!
Here's mama teaching her young'uns her spring ice fishing technique.:)

I don't get too many of those in the 'burbs.

I probably could go back a year and see the same post from me --- I hate cold!!

I love the snow and cold down to the teens. It’s the minus thirties with twenty mile an hour wind that I can do without.

Me sitting in an easy chair, or a comfortable Greene & Greene, fitting in perfectly with the rest of the decor. A low crackle from the fireplace that smells like hickory. A heavy pour of something from Islay, tasting of peat and campfires. A Missouri Meerschaum glowing with Petersons Nightcap, the smoke curling up into rafters. The air kissed with the smells of Christmas. Through the big picture window, fresh snow spread across a field, with the red barn glowing against it, two horse standing in white. Finish the setting with a turkey roasting in the oven.

That’s what I dream of.

Then I wake up to the distant rumble of the first salt truck at 3 a.m., spraying that molasses brine. Watch my fenders bubble by St Valentine’s Day and every creek turn the color of rust by March. Billions spent so some highway superintendent can keep his budget line item alive.
