The "Dew Drop Inn" Chronicles

Plenty of fun for all teardroppers on the Oly Peninsula T. Come out sometime.

Saw another teardrop whiz by this morning, too fast to snap a picture, it looked to be vintage being towed by a very old Dodge van.

Yay, I love Oly... starting at Salt Creek... will be heading out there once Summer is over... used to be right after Labor day, now last week in Sept... I'm going to try the open area, up on the "Top floor (level) so I can just sit back and watch the ferries roll by...

Usually I'm in the peninsula wooded area which is really kewl, but thought I'd give this side a chance...

Okie dokie, Michael & Frank, the Olympic Peninsula is now on our Bucket List. Maybe our camera/photo skills will improve after breathing all that "Oly" air. <grin>

Happy Camping, T & Joy

Great T, you can't go wrong out there...

there are so many places to see, Hurricane Ridge, Neah Bay, Hoh Rain forest, Hot springs... nice short hike to the falls is worth it...

More photos here to give you an idea. Camping at Salt Creek of course and this was an all day outing. Just look for the
"Salt Creek" albums

takes a week minimum...

fun...

I think you're onto something Ken, they both have the thunderbolt motif paint job or stylized "S", could very well be a Shasta teardrop standy.

While we're on the subject of standys, just thought I'd run this by all of you. I was day dreaming one day, I think it was on the 6th straight day of rain while camped in the redwoods in Nor Cal, I was thinking to myself, self I says, wouldn't it be nice if at this very moment I was warm and dry, maybe have the kettle on for tea, nip into the head for a pee and contemplating a shower later all while staying warm and dry instead of being cold and wet huddled under the barely dry Northern Breeze after returning from the campground restroom soaked to the bone.

So I broke out a pencil and put that dream to paper. Now everyone has there idea of perfection on wheels, this is mine. Susan and I have lived aboard our small sailboat for 10 years and have learned a thing or two about essential comforts for two. I ran the idea and drawing by Cary and although he liked it and said that he also had been daydreaming and had his own drawing of the perfect standy, that it wasn't going to happen anytime soon because Camp-Inn is way too busy as it is. But I just thought if there was enough interest from all of you maybe they would reconsider and introduce a new model, maybe call it the Camp-Inn 600.

Now don't get me wrong Susan and I love our 550, we just thought it'd be cool to have the comfort of a standy but built the Camp-Inn way. Beautifully! Now I know you 560 owners are thinking if he wants more comfort why didn't he get a 560, but there ain't no head/shower/ galley inside a 560 either!

Just dreamin here.

Michael

I just got my "standy head" for my 560 today a Lightspeed privacy tent and a Zodi Extreme shower, both very nice. Haven't tried the shower yet but the tent is excellent. Up in under four min. by myself first time down just as easy.

Aha, now it's becoming clear, that's why the 500 series because they're five feet wide, duh! OK then Camp-Inn 800 it is. When can Susan and I expect delivery Cary?

Jim, yes we know about those, we call them coughdrops, not the same quality as the Camp-Inn, not by a long shot.

Michael

Yah, timeArctic Fox... but still a year or two away...

The Wind, Rain and Dust are finally winning...

Any two and it's pack up and go time.
(well Rain and dust might not be so bad, heheheh)

Yeah Mike, very cool privacy tent, watched the video on line, pretty impressive. Love the shower too, we've been using a similar set up on the boat for years, works great, it's plastic though, we heat water on the stove so the stainless steel one would save a step, cool!

Frank, looked at the pictures of the Arctic Fox, pretty sweet, get a load of that counter space in the galley, lots of room for a mixology station!

Michael

No head/shower/galley...
Tina would need a big brother to haul all that around...

The reason we chose the Camp Inn 500 Special was because we didn't want all those "amenities" on the inside!!!

I love my teardrop. Albeit 3 or 4 nights a week, once or twice a month!! LOL

Susan,

I agree with you...I like the simplicity of the Camp Inns...not a lot of bells and whistles to overwhelm you!

Now don't get us wrong we think our 550 stands tall above the rest, just dreamin about a little more comfort when the rain starts and won't stop. Sounds like we have 2 more votes for comfort from Frank and Jenn, that might be enough demand to start up a third shift! Haha.

I don't think it would be that much more complicated than a 500 series with all the doodads Diane. You would have to add a separate drain to the grey water for the shower. You could use a shower like Mike mentioned earlier in the thread to keep it simple, like I said we use a similar system on the boat and it works great. You would need a black water tank and run water to the toilet. All the tanks would have to be bigger of course but bigger doesn't necessarily mean more complicated. The Camp-Inn galley hatch is an engineering marvel, you wouldn't have that, in fact you'd be down to just one door on the 800 series which is way less complicated than the 2 doors plus hatch on the 550 and 560.

Now as to getting a bigger tow vehicle, well, there may be an opportunity here. The new version of the legendary Bowlus Road Chief weighs in at 2000lbs dry for a 20 foot trailer. The 800 is only 16 feet so you could slice a bunch of weight off there. You're right Susan Tina couldn't tow the 800 but the 3rd gen Mini with way more horsepower might, who knows maybe trade her in for a third generation Clubman and stay with the theme.

Just dreamin here.

I wasn't dreaming when I saw this very cool tear with a tilt up top at Fort Casey SP today. You can see the filler panel on the ground waiting to be installed.

Back on the Peninsula this afternoon we saw what looked to be a So Cal tear going the other way. Went by too fast for a picture.
