2025 Toyota Land Cruiser 250

We own a 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser (“Elsie”) and prior to buying #1010, we rented a couple of other bigger travel trailers (Rpod and a Jayco - Sorry….I can’t recall the weight of these) and it towed just fine. But with our 560 we can sometimes forget it’s back there.

Mileage on flat interstates is about 20 mpg towing our 560.

Everything on ours is stock. It’s comfortable to travel in but it does have limited storage in driver/passenger area. We love the 2400W inverter. We’re running an Iceco fridge and a EcoFlow in the cargo area from the AC outlet. Makes it all so simple to keep things running and charged.

It does have a small gas tank. Just 17.9 gallons. It says premium fuel is a must. Could be because it’s a turbo. Gets about 22-23 on highway without a trailer attached. I’d say we get 17-18 city. Hp=326… torque is 465.

If you go on the LC forum people will be complaining about gas tank size and need for premium fuel. Many people I’m sure are using regular unleaded but I’m going with premium, at least until the warranty is up.

We’ve had it for a year now and are proud owners. Happy to answer any other questions.

The 26 Rav4 has doubled its towing capacity from 1750 to 3500. Will be seriously looking at it once in the show room.
Thats a fine vehicle too. For anyone who is into accessorizing their vehicle for more off-roadish capability, the RAV4 is second only to Subaru who has been doing kewl stuff with LP Adventure...bumper light mounts, bambi bars, skid plates etc (@Jenn ) to replace the fragile plastic dust covers...

I'd look closely at RAVs except I want to move up from AWD (which is fine for 90% of where you might tow the CI) softroading...

To actual 4x4 for more confidence when solo self rescue. Be nice to mount a winch too, which will would pull my Alltrack pull my radiator and intercooler right off off at bumper mount on unibody...

So, you need a body on frame construction...like 4runners, Tacos, LCs, Rangers, Jeeps, Big Bronco, etc.

I realllly like the trucklets- Maverik especially but you just cant crawl slow enough to tow on rutted rocky fire roads or thru sandy washes even aired down in AWD gearing meant for mpg, to get to the amazing places away from the crowds, in the western lands.

So I am looking for 4x4 with lo-lo, locking diffs

Ya imho thats pretty good MPG for that size vehicle and engine pushing whats basically a small barn door like any other SUV or truck.

Nice thing is the CI is aerodynamically in the wind shadow as much as possible so thats a good match.

17 gal? I'm at 14 in Alltrack with same mog fulky losded towing, so ya I'f like more too.
Its plenty to get in and out most places if you plan ahead but it would be nice to carry a liitle extra as an "oops" backup. Plus for those long stretches in between... sometimes the gas station on the apple map or goolag is no longer there, or closed early...

Or to run a genny if you needed it to recharge CI battery, run dometic plus other toys that SUCK POWAH like Starlink...if you were going long somewhere with not enough sun.
I'm trying to figure out how to hang a couple of those flat tanks off of my TV
Or mounted on the CI but really prefer not to add more weight to CI if I can help it. I've tried carrying 2 5 gal jugs on the Iup cargo rack attacked to bike rack on the CI bumper mount but thsts pushing the weight limit and I only fill up on the last gas station before boondocking- as the center of gravity and "moment of sway" gets a little sketchy at speed...Others have done better putting them on TV bumper, but I'm limited out on that by Alltrack hitch mount limits, 1up rack geometry...still noodling...

I imagine plenty of people have done house batt-trees inside LCs and a couple here have done kewl stuff in vans and trucks,
but like you I like to keep the cargo area flexible, and
For me the wiring simple, cuz in my case I have to open the link Sweeney sent me to basics like Ohms Law and how to use a voltmeter every time...
so my DIY on EE is suspect...;)

Three things I forgot to add about towing with LC.

1.) The towing tech is not very user friendly. There are several safety features you have to manually disable when really, if you push the tow mode button, that should be done for you imho.

2.) The 7pin connector is right next to the exhaust, so… it’s annoying.

3.) There aren’t any after market mirror extensions that fit on the LC blocky mirrors. This was very problematic (dangerous) when we tried those larger trailers. Hated that. There are companies that list their universal mirrors as fitting the LC 250 but they don’t. With the 560 rear visibility is not an issue.

TY. Good info.
I'm assuming automatic trans?

Does yours have a separate trans cooler, or an option to add later?

No standard separate cooler that I’m aware of. Have not looked into that but then again, after we ended up on a terribly steep grade, having chosen the wrong road to our destination, and watching the temp gauge shoot up, I’m motivated to do more research…

EDIT: I just want to add that my transmission was getting “heated” on a very long, rugged, steep grade, unpaved road. We had no business pulling our trailer up that hill. Normal towing conditions, on paved roadways, pulling a heavier trailer than our CI, on hilly stretches of the Pacific Coast Highway, it did great.
