Solar

A solar panel is the last major purchase to make before taking delivery of our 560. I'd like to have at least 100w, a folding unit for portability, and an adjustable stand, all at an affordable price. I've found a good candidate at Newegg.com. It is rated at 120w and does NOT have a solar controller, which is good because we're getting the built-in controller from CI. The only issue I see is the plug-in will have to be modified, as it only comes with alligator clips to connect to a battery. The price is $281.70. I've been looking at the GoPower 120w, but it costs $247 more than this one! From what I can tell, this product is manufactured by Eco-Worthy in China and distributed bu LEDSOLAR. Does anyone have experience with Eco-Worthy panels? What do you think of this deal? Here's the link:

I don't know a thing but am anxiously waiting for others to chime in with information. I am also waiting for my trailer and thinking on the solar decision.

I figured this is the best deal I'm going to find, so I ordered the Eco-Worthy unit from Newegg. Rocommendations please: what is the best plug adapter that fits the CI external receptacle? Tips on wiring it? Tips on cord extensions? The panel comes with 15', but I'm thinking more would be better. Thanks.

That seems like a good price. Let me know how it works out. When do you take delivery of your 560? I won't get mine until April. The wait has given me time to order most of what I need. I already had most kitchen stuff from tenting. I like to travel as light as possible.

Jim, I didn't have to wire a plug on mine, but I know some of the folks here have done it. I don't think it was too difficult.

Pat, we are expecting the 560 to be completed in mid-Jan. The plan, subject to change, is to slip into Necedah during a break in the weather and high-tail it to Florida for a shake-down cruise. We'll almost certainly have to keep it wrapped in plastic until we get beyond the salt on the roads. I know we're pushing it a little, but we're impatient and want to take the trailer on our winter excursion.

JimT- Here is a great threat from Joan: Energy Independence that shows how to do the extension and the plug. Use the plug from Camp-Inn. It's made for that receptacle (marine quality seal with a 10amp fuse) and is the best plug I've seen. A little bit of a pain to wire though. I went with a 100 watt Grape Solar from Home Depot so I'd have some recourse in case it didn't perform well or had issues. That said, I do wish mine was foldable like yours!

Best of luck!

For all the folks that are afraid of buying solar from somebody's home, you can always use West Marine (www.westmarine.com) as a supplier. I've been running solar panels from them for over fifteen years in boats with no problems.

That being said, my first choice for my new 550 is the Renogy 100W folding panel for $269.

Jim, If you want to have an extension use only wire at least the thickness of what you have from the panel. I use Anderson Power Pole connectors. You can get them from a Ham Radio Store or Marine supplier. They take a special tool to install. I use them on other projects but most places that sell them probably will make up your extension for you and install the connectors.

If you can keep the cord short, but if trying to park in shade go ahead and use the extension. You may lose some efficiency.
