Morning Cup Of Coffee And Weather

The SC State Parks has a scavenger hunt from Thanksgiving until New Year’s Day called Dashing through the Parks. Some things require going to some of the parks while others you can do at home. You earn points and if you earn enough you get some swag - tshirt, knit cap, etc. The top level enters you into a drawing for some gift cards. Never had our name drawn for those, but it gets out of the house. Went to Devils Fork SP on Lake Jocassee today. Next Saturday, I’m going to see Santa at Table Rock or the Grinch at Hickory Knob.

Today’s high is 66 degrees and tonight’s low is 46. Our best camping weather is during the winter months. Heading out for 4 nights next week.
How do you spell it? PBBBTH!!!! :p

I was going to go out as well, just for 2 nights - but then I looked at the forecast. Ay Carumba! It usually doesn't get this cold this fast here! Late last week, we got 2 nights in the mid-teens. This isn't common. Add to the fact, I'm freezing while driving to Church and the outside temperature is still 30 outside.

When I start to feel sorry for myself, I find a YouTube channel that shows life in Yakutsk, Russia. -97 degrees Fahrenheit is not unheard of there. It's fascinating to see how these people live. I have to admit, spending 3 days and 2 nights there might be an interesting experience. Just once.

Talking about winterization @Tour 931 , after 2 nights in the teens and daytime highs below freezing. I got an 'emergency' call from someone wanting winterization. He said the water wouldn't run and his pump stopped working. Uhoh. Fortuantely, the CIs system is a lot more simple than full size. I have to admit, pouring a gallon into the tank and running it until it turns pink in the sprayer, sink, and shower-outlet is a lot eaiser than running around trying to find low point drains and winterization/suction tubes.

Hey, don't forget - that furnace!

We tried dry brining last year, and it was one of the best birds I've made, but it's a little late to do for this years TG, best start three days ahead. No bucket required, so if there's room in the fridge for the turkey, you can dry brine it.

I didn't get turkey this year. We went to family, and they had like a 8 pound bird, and being 'last in line' the only thing left was some small remnant pieces. Ham was good, as was everything else. So, I am definatley not complaining. Lamenting perhaps that thanksgiving meal is my favorite combination. The cranberry, turkey, potatoes, stuffing -- its all 100% comfort food. Sadly, its also not exactly wasteline friendly. After this last week, its back on the 'diet' until Christmas Day...then back on the diet again. I've got to drop a few pounds.

I'm going to see about picking up a turkey this week when I go shopping next. I won't be able to enjoy the other starcy things, but at least I can have turkey. May have to try this -- I wouldn't call it a brine as much as I would a moisture extraction from the skin - I bet that is pretty crispy!!!

I finally winterized mine today so I didn’t have to build a fire in the shop.
