The "Dew Drop Inn" Chronicles

When we picked up our trailer late September a Camp Inn 550 rolled through the camp grounds (Castle Rock SP) Must not have stayed as I didn't see it again. I havn't seen a tear drop camper of any make or model since then. I think I need to get out more lol.

Yeah Mike, they're coming out of the woodwork, saw this very sweet 4 by 8 in the Point Hudson campground in Port Townsend this afternoon and look, down the way is a too cool vintage standy!

Joan has posted about using safety cones to aid in backing up her trailer, great idea however those things are tough to store. So I was delighted to find these beauties at Swain's general store in Port Angeles this week.

It collapses flat, how cool is that! I think we can find room for these. You never know what you're gonna find at Swain's. Now I know most of you folks are not familiar with general stores, I know I wasn't until we moved to the Peninsula, they are a real throwback, I mean old school no wait ancient school stuff, but here on the Oly peninsula they are alive and well. Now I know Wallymart is the contemporary general store in most towns but Swain's has brands you actually desire not settle for, Levi's, Carhart, Merril, Keen, Filson, Patagonia in clothes and footwear but of course they also have paint and hardware, sporting goods, toys for kids, kitchen stuff, gardening tools, gold prospecting supplies, camping gear, etc., etc.

In our even smaller town of Port Townsend we have our own general store Quimper Mercantile that is community owned ( shares of the business are owned by townsfolk who invested in the startup )

photo23.jpg

Like Swain's you never know what you'll find there, Susan found this hat at Quimper, not only is she ready for winter and Halloween but now she'll fit right into the local scene. You've no doubt heard of Monty Python's "Ministry of Silly Walks", well Port Townsend is the land of silly hats ...
no really!

So if you've been looking for something out of the ordinary and can't find it at the mall or your local big box store you may just find it at that most rare of American retail establishments, the general store.

Lookin' good Susan! Be carefull walking in the woods with that on if it's hunting season. Maybe carry one of the pylons with you lol.

Oh Gawd, Yeah....

I love those old time General Stores with wooden floors, rafters... Great places for Cast Iron stuff.

It's like a Game, wandering up one aisle down another...
They have a big one in Ocean Park, WA.

I was just catching up on my reading and noticed the poles you use on your side tents and NB. Do you remember who makes them or where you got them they look pretty sturdy

Thanks
Rick

Yeah, yeah Frank bacon scented stick on stash, I can imagine that those are a big seller and they can't keep em on the shelf haha. I'll check out the other general stores you mentioned, you never know what you'll find, like the ad says " If we don't have it you don't need it"

Rick, the poles are Kelty awning poles, yes very sturdy, work perfect for the side tents. Joan discovered them a while back and posted about them I think. We saw her's at the Northwest Roundup last year. Amazon has them.

Yeah, I've heard more than a few people complain about the Camp-Inn poles, rusting steel, weak cams that fail and allow the tent to sag. The Kelty poles are a hundred bucks for 2 so I can kinda understand why CI doesn't go with them, I mean you'd have to price the side tent at 400 bucks! You can buy a Northern Breeze for that. But for us you just can't beat the side tent for easy up and down. We'll put one up for a one night stand. With the PVC floor and it guyed back to the trailer frame you don't have to drive any stakes into the ground. We almost always stake and guy down the NB cuz it's just a huge sail when the wind pipes up, never wanna have to chase a canopy accross the campground at 4 in the morning.

It's crispy cold on the Sound, no rain but freezing temps... very rare weather for these parts...enjoying every minute of it.

Saw this Tiny Trailer in Port Townsend this morning...not strictly a teardrop ... however a nice aero dynamic front end and what looks to be an entry hatch in the rear.

Another beauty! We will get to the Pacific northwest as a priority, perhaps tied in with the northwest round up. Are you loving your new trailer? Hope you have had good luck selling Dewey. Best to you and Susan!

Michael, what are those things in the background that go up and down and make your horizon all jagged? :)
