Morning Cup Of Coffee And Weather

Back around ‘82 or ‘83, Anderson County where I live was deemed the Murder Capital of the US. Textile mills were closing left and right, unemployment was around 15% in the area. Upstate SC still has a pretty high crime rate.

This one involved an argument of money, drugs & an argument about the dead man’s daughter dating the other guy.
That’s terrible.

The Bucc-ees just opened in Ohio! Just the other side of Dayton on 70 near wright-patt. I suspect we'll be making a trip this week sometime. I would have yesterday, but can only imagine the insanity. Maybe on a weekday late morning it will be less nuts.

I was coming back from somehwere in the south through Kentucky where one opened a few years ago -- maybe 2 or even 3 -- I had Serenity in tow. I legitimately needed gas so I stopped. After, I drove around the parking lot for something like 15-20 minutes up and down and there wasn't a single spot to park, let alone a double that would let me park with the camper in tow. I saw 2 other RV's doing the same.

I know truckers out there hate them becuase they specifically disallow big-rigs. Honstly, I have no sympathy. Loves and Pilot/Flying J -- if the wind is just right you can smell the urine coming off the asphalt. I know it is only a TINY fraction of drivers that create the problem, but the filthy few have done it for the good fellas too. The number of bottles throw on the ground is an embarsment. That siad, I wish they had at least a couple desginated RV parking spots like Cracker Barrel does -- even if they don't allow overnighting.

Rumor has it, they are looking at Avon, Greenwood, and Lebanon (West, South, and northwest) near Indianapolis for a location. I really dont' care about all the shopping, though I do have a couple of shirts and sweat pants in the house somehwere. When I was down in Texas earlier this year, it was a non-uncommon stop for a quick bite and a splash of fuel.

There's also a new competitor -- I think its been talked about --- Wally's. We re definately getting one of those in Lebanon, the constructon is nearing completion. This will be their third locadtion, and the biggest. They are on Route 66 north central Illinois, just west of St. Louis, and now here. ALMOST a carbon copy of Bucc-ees -- except they sell popcorn which is the fragrance that permiates the store more than "Q"

At one point we were getting a Buc-ees at one of the exits of of I-85 in the S.C. county l live in. Exit 21, but it eventually fell apart because they couldn’t get the funds to upgrade the exit on/off ramps plus the overpass. Lake Hartwell is only half mile south of the exit and they’ll need to expand that bridge at the same time so it’s going to be pricey to redo all of that.

I stopped at a Buc-ees in Indiana and it took 45 minutes to get gas and pee. Didn’t have time to get more coffee. I don’t need 100 gas pumps just one I can pull into immediately. Here in Wisconsin we have Kwik-Trips and you can fillup, pee and get coffee in 4-10 minutes.

Not in Indiana --- closest is near Dayton, the next closest is in Kentucky - Lexington area, and Bowling Green. Last November, it made the news that they were sniffing around. I can't say I'd be upset if they did.

This kind of reminds me of Cabellas. Before the bass-pro debacle, so that is probably the bigger reason --- The wrong company won that battle. We used to make an annual prilgrimage to the north east side of the state near Gary. Now I have one 40 minutes from me and I make it there once every two years. Though that is probalby more that the selection of things I would buy is very little. The Cabellas canvas shirts were my go-to. A shirt would get weekly use and lasted for years before retirement. :(

Back to the beaver, last time I came through the bowling green location, the line to the pumps was to the exit ramp quite literally. When exiting the interstate, you hit the line for the right turn, and the line of cars extended bumper-to-bumper to the pumps. There was also a similar line of cars coming from the south bound lane of the interstate. Anyone waiting in that, probably should seek immediate psychological help.

I totally get your point. In the above case, I attribute it to weekend travel.

The Dayton (Huber heights) location was big, but not the biggest I've seen -- that is is the one in Dallas. However, we drove right in and parked in the second row right by the entry door. The pumps were mostly unoccupied. I'm sure on any given Saturday of non-work day at 2pm it would have been busy.

As far as the store goes, theres not much there. However, we really like their BBQ and Mrs Sweeney and I needed a road trip to anywhere. Just to get out of the house for a bit, so the drive was worth it alone.

Me too. Plus the gas at Loves is low quality.

Well it was somewhere between Wisconsin and Florida.

I don't know about that, it all seems to burn ok in my car. I wish they would improve their food offerings though, the rollinator meals are pretty bad. Wawa, Leos (local but growing), and many other brands do a pretyt good job of making gas/meal stops on road trips fast and reasonably easy. My fave is buc-ee's -- I really do like their Q.
