Morning Cup Of Coffee And Weather

Growing up, my best friends dad owned a small engine repair shop which also sold lawnmowers, snowblowers, snowmobiles, and motorcycles. They were a Bridgestone dealer, and through my friend who was a two years older than me, I was able to ride his motorcycles on the back roads where law enforcement wasn't a factor. Starting with the 50, then 90, and 175. By the time I was old enough to get my license, I was already a relatively seasoned rider, and it was about that time that Bridgestone came out with the 350. Great bike! I think it was the first with a 6 speed tranny, and first that produced more than 1hp per 10cc of displacement. It would cruise easily at 90, and if I laid down on the tank, and tucked in my knees and elbows, 120 was attainable. I too had a friend die though, which made me choose to have a little more protection surrounding me. I did get a Yamahopper shaft drive scooter some years later when I worked at HCMC in downtown Minneapolis in the late 70's early 80's so I could chain it to a street sign and not have to pay for parking. Could drive it all week on 50 cents worth of gas instead of $5/day parking.:)
.....unfortunately the other major Japanese motorcycle manufacturers who all used Bridgestone tires on their bikes, decided they didn't like the success that Bridgestone was having, so told them if they continued to sell bikes, they would find another source for their tires. Since tire sales far exceeded revenue from bike sales, they stopped motorcycle production in about 1970.

Going to be 94 F and sunny here with 65%+ humidity. Summer has officially hit. Time to sweat to the oldies. UGH.

'tis not fair. If we're gonna have blistering heat/humidity in summer, at least we should have some snow in the winter! (*pouts*)

It was a goal at one time, but we never got the time off to go do it. From the stories & pictures I've seen, it's an absolutely beautiful ride as long as you don't either (a) get stuck behind an RV going 15 mph or worse: (b) get stuck behind someone on their garage queen who doesn't know how to properly ride at speed (push right, go right/push left, go left), or worse than that: being tailgated by someone on a crotch-rocket or a sports-car. We were more casual riders than those who needs to "ring the bell" around every curve.

I have to be honest, I drove it at around 7am. It added a little time on my way home from Florida, and I just watned see it so I could say that I was there. Driving a rental, I think taurus...

Either way, I had been driving overnight, so I was pretty tired when I got there....we passed the entry point and I was off to the races. By the time I got to the end of the trail, I was starting to 'forget' how to turn the car --- I felt like I wanted to turn the wheel in the opposite direction. It was the most bizarre feeling I've ever had in my life.

Never took two wheels on it, and after driving it I don't think I'd want too.

Now there's a piece of history I didn't know! Its funny if you look at modern bikes and compare...veeery different.

My bike is a Trek Emonda
11 speed
Compact crankset
Horsepower - .2 horsepower
23 mm tires
Carbon fiber frame with carbon fiber wheels
Top speed: 53 mph (coming down NC 215 from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Don’t tell my wife this stat)

53 -- that had to start getting to be a 'technical' ride!!!

I'm laid up in bed --- I hurt myself on Thursday and further on Friday....my lower back is prevening me from even standing normally. Worst time possible.

This isn't the first time I've had this happen -- its just a 'bad one.' what hurt more is having to clear the deck of customers.

Hope you are feeling better Sweeney. I climbed Timms Hill yesterday and took this picture of my house.

Such a great house!

The NP at the urgent care gave me a script for a muscle relaxant and a steroid. I'm feeling so much better today!! I'm in the danger zone where I feel just good enough to go do something dumb and relapse. I'm forcing myself to be on "low key time" for a few days -- playing it by ear. But I see nothing happening until next week.

Back pain is nothing new to me - I've had it my whole life on and off. This was just the worst and longest duration without some improvement.

I just finished cutting the grass -- which will need to be cut again on the next dry day...whenever that is. Not so much to cut the grass, but to chop up the clippings...I ook off at least 5 inches - and I keep my grass at 3 1/2 inches...it was UGLY back there.

Just had a bit to take out a tree, and to limb up 3 more. We have a maple tree that is structurally unsound, and a pin oak that is dropping limbs. This arborist thinks it will survive...but needs some help.

Thanks for the kind words.

I'm feeling prety spry this morning. A few rounds of prednisone and a wonderful muscle relaxer, I'm able to stand upright again!! A few little pinches - but all in all -- things are looking up again. BUt I am going to take it easy for a little while make sure whatever was done is truly done. That was horrible!

Its just sad that during that I've lost 3 opportunities. All at the speedway (Indy 500) -- I think I"m keeping in my rest the back until Monday at least. but -- there's light at the end of the tunnel!

We're officialy in rainy season -- lets get some Sunshine and temperaturesin the low 80's please!

Glad you're feeling better, Sweeney. Mid-80's here & stormy, c'mon down!

We are in Italy for a few weeks and my hip has given out on me. Thank goodness you can get medications here over the counter that require a prescription in the US.

I have serious problems with many of our pharma laws. The previous few years has made me seriously doubt the quality of our health care....how much of it paid for by powes that be.

I'm doing well, I sincerley hope you are on the mend as far as I am. Almost back to 'normal'

We're getting wet too -- the last couple weeks. It seems the rainy season got here a little late, along with cooler than usual temperatures.

I kind of like it except I have some AC's in the garage that I need to move :D

I havnt' really had a chance to get out for enjoyment this year yet - but this weekend is looking promising. I'll be camp site searching later today. Our campgrounds are almost empty -- I can't help but wonder what the cause is. I stay almost exclusively at state parks. For the money, they have traditionally been the best bang for the buck. Typically they were (see #2 below) around $30 a night about half of a 'resort' which we really don't take advantage of ammenities anyway.

Currently, I see two options:

1] Gas Prices - $3.89 a gallon is high, but we saw this before and campgrounds were full.
2] Large increase in fees --- Indiana used to be $25-29 a night. But Many of our parks have raised their fees by $10 or even $20.

I know when I saw the state parks jump, it felt like sticker shock. And I still resent being charged that much while paying some of the higher gas taxes, and the flood of 'tax abatement' being given to warehouses that are popping up like dandelions in our state.

Back to reservations, this is what it was like in 2010 when we started camping - last minute reservations were the norm. Hopefully the state sees it in gets more in line with reality -- honestly, I wouldn't mind paying that much if money ever went back into the facilities....the new ones they are building today are awful...

I suppose it’s too early to complain about how hot it is. It’s not incredibly hot but the relative humidity makes it seem that way. I put the window air conditioner up yesterday and at least I can be inside and be comfortable.

I’m getting into summertime mode and getting up at 5 and heading outside to work by 6. Then by noon I’m done and come inside.
