Morning Cup Of Coffee And Weather

I have a Siberian cat. Meet Little Girl. She topped out at 18 pounds before I put her on a diet.

Polydactile? Those feet look huge!
I’ve camped in the cold and snow in mine. Spent a night in my old one in Fargo when it was -35F.

I've not done that, though I have slept in it in lower temperatures...never -35. Probably around 5 or so -- the furnace saved my bacon I'm really upset weve got this cold spell and snow. MOstly the snow. The streets are white with salt already - so I'm not taking her out in that.

Yes. It’s common in Siberians. Think of them as snowshoes. She loves looking at the snow and cold outside.
And she spends a lot of time on her heated pad.

We saw three tiny snowflakes while we were at our daughter’s this weekend in Mooresville, NC. Looks like the upcoming weekend may be our winter weather eve for the season. Hopefully it’s snow and not freezing rain.

With the wind chill it’s expected to hit -45F. I miss global warming.
Oh and that is just for the advisory. For the extreme cold watch it will be even colder.
Alas, it’s so warm in the Northwest our mountain snowpack is well below 50% of normal. Every snowfall has been followed by warming and melting. It’s going to be a terrible water year… the upcoming wildfire season doesn’t seem promising. I wonder where we should camp this year?

But there was snow in Florida, Alabama and Georgia this month? Last year too? Climate change is challenging.

I'm just glad we're making a brief foray into the 40's today. Pay for it this weekend. I'm still bummed I won't be able to (or want too) go to the shiveree this weekend. Low single digits just seems like penance rather than something fun to do. 40's and a campfire - now we're talking!

I dunno, it seems to be all of the advisories etc that are sent out are to a certain degree creating a dangerous situation. Its winter, you expect it to be cold, and it isn't out of the ordinary. Even if you are talking about extreme a its not like a cold front jumps out of nowhere and "surprise" its -40 in june. There has to be some onus upon the individual to be responsible enough to care for themselves.

Now, that is not to say they shouldn't set advisories for things like severe storms, blizzard conditions, tornado conditions exist - things that 'pop up' and legitimately are a surprise. I've been at a park when a tornado inducing storm belew through with about 10 minutes warning by watching the skies. That is an appropriate "alert"

In our modern lives, we are inundated with warnings, beeps and boops all day -- it just desensitizes us to the situation when there is a truly dangerous situation.

It might be nice if the the levels of adivsories had a weighting, like are used in 'logs' in computer science

6] Emergency -- SHTF is happening!
5] Alert - There is a high probability of SHTFI
4] Critical - The conditions are right for SHTF
3] Warning - later in the week SHTF
2] Informational - you might find this interseting to know what SHTF is.
1] DEBUG - There is an ant crawling across my desk thinking...hmmm...sugar.

And you should be able to filter you smart TV, phone or whatever to only tell me about 4+ --- 'Okay, campers, rise and shine, and don't forget your booties 'cause it's cooooold out there today.' is up to noisy DJ's who are tyring to fill airtime.

I’m not planning on going any for the next three days. We have been getting about an inch of snow each day. An inch isn’t all that much until you get it everyday for half a month. My driveway is six inches of hard dense snow with four inches of powder on top. The landscape has 18” with bare spots and three foot drifts.

Keeping up with it is the hard part --- Its a pet peeve but when some walks or drives on my driveway before I have a chance to shovel/blow it off --- you get that hard packed nasty, impossible remove layer -- I'm triggered thinking about it!

Fortunately for us, no snow...just cold. Well, 1/2"

My biggest concern is that one of the furry terrorists has figured out how to open the front door...lovely LOL

They are calling for 16 to 24 inches of snow Saturday night thru Monday in northeast PA. I have seen bare ground one day since Thanksgiving. It has been a cold and snowy winter. I added a G-scale train to our backyard last summer and I was hoping to be able to to run a train this winter but I have not seen my tracks. I have a friend who paints custom train cars and he also makes G-scale snow plows so I will have a plow next year.

That 18” is now 24”.

I just had my wife send me a facebook post from National Weather Service --- this looks like Sunday we may get up to 12 inches.

Of course we know the accuracy of their predictions....I'll break out the bermuda shorts.
