Re: Glacier NP..... suggestions?
I've been to Glacier many times and while there are lots of nice campgrounds my favorite is "Many Glaciers" in the north east corner. Beautiful spot, lovely lodge, nice lake with a fun boat tour and hike and it is a lot less crowded than the campgrounds around lake McDonald. Going to the sun road is a must, plan on hiking the trails around the visitor center at the top of the pass and plan for extra time, you'll want it. The lake McDonald boat tour is nice but I prefer the one at many glaciers, took a helicopter tour once and it was spectacular. Don't expect to be WOWed by glaciers in the park unless you want to hike a long way. There might not be any glaciers left in a few years. If you can time your trip for the late spring/early summer so you miss the spring rains (ice cold rain) the water coming down off the mountains is spectacular, water falling everywhere on the going to the sun road. Tons of wildlife, be prepared for bears and carry a can of bear spray when hiking just in case. The mountain goats on the pass are so used to tourists they are almost tame (but still wild animals). I've seen grizzlies, wolves, elk, deer, mountain goats, and moose (up close and personal) in the park as well as a variety of varmits. Enough day length trails to keep you busy for weeks, back country trails for months. Wonderful park.
