We drove our 2009 Raindrop 650 from Michigan to Alaska and back this spring/summer. We pulled our trailer with a 2002 Pontiac Aztec. We traveled through Canada on our way out stopping at the Canadian Rockies. Next we crossed the Yukon and took the Alaskan highway to Fairbanks. We visited Denali National Park, Anchorage, Seward, Haines and Valdez. We took a ferry to a small fishing village where we chartered a boat for a day of fishing. I caught an 86# halibut while Greg snagged a 46 pounder. We saw Mt McKinley along with many other mountains, glaciers, rivers, lakes, and wildlife. Our odometer showed 12,150 miles upon our return.

Oh my what a trip! How many days was your trip. We want to go to Alaska but have not planned for it yet. Did you preplan all your stops? Or wing it as you went. Looks awesome.

We were gone two months. We had a general itinerary with only one set date which was for the charter fishing. At one point we had extra time so we went to some out of the way places that we would not have otherwise seen. We had no reservations and no problems finding places. The campgrounds are plentiful and fairly cheap and nice. There are lots of government campsites with pit toilets and water that are very clean in scenic spots. We figured out that lots of laundromats have showers.

Looks and sounds like it was a great trip. It's also been on our list for many years - but the time needed to do it right won't be possible for at least a couple more years.

We plan on taking much the same trip next year (2012) but stretching it out a little further, maybe as much a 10 weeks. We will enter Canada from Montana, travel up the Fraser River valley (Banff, Lake Louise etc.) to Dawsen Creek and the AlCan highway and head towards Fairbanks. We will detour from the trip above however to go as far north as Inuvik in the Northwest Territories (NWT) to try and make the arts and crafts festival there in July. First Nation people (Native Canadians) come from hundreds of miles around to show and sell their handcrafted art each year at this gathering and we are really looking forward to getting there in time.
