Morning Cup Of Coffee And Weather

Hope everyone has had a nice Independence Day. We did the parade in Red River, NM which was a lot of fun. The place we are staying in here grilled hot dogs for everyone.
Sounds great! I spent a couple days with one of my daughters and my 95 year old mom at her place in SW Michigan. Did some grilling, watched some fireworks and enjoyed each other's company. Very nice indeed:)

This was the most uninspriing holiday I've had in a long time. Matter of motivation.

Next year, 250 years -- I want to plan something special. I remember almost vividly in 1976 talking to my Mom & Dad, asking (after a huge fireworks display) "Will I ever see anything like this again?"

They said "Well, 250 years probably will be big...We'll never see it...but you should" They passed just over a year ago. I suppose they were right. It amazes me how something like a splash of fireworks on a dark sky brings such memories.

All I want to see are the "Blooming Flowers", fountains, and pinweels my Dad loved so much. Mostly because bottle rockets were about as extreme as was allowed back then....

I miss the days of endless forum scrolling, but life’s thrown me into the deep end!

Fired from my cushy corporate gig in 2024, I leaped and started an RV repair biz in 2025. January to May had me questioning everything, but the past few weeks? BOOM—1-3 jobs a day!

While I am not rolling in profits yet, but the hustle’s real. Never working so hard to make so little. Yet, learning from dumb mistakes and some ironically solid marketing. Experience: the priciest teacher, but worth it.

I wish I could spend a lot more time here....but can't. Keep me in your prayers, and know come end of the season I'll probably be annoying everyone with pointless nonsense again :)

Your nonsense is never pointless, Sweeney!

I thought the point here was not to have a point.

Observations from our trip:
1. There are a lot of Tysons Chicken Strip 18 wheelers out. I wish I had $100 for each one.
2. The worst drivers drive Dodge Challengers, BMWs, Audis, or Chrysler 300s.
3. You can listen to a lot of Tom Perry’s Buried Treasure Show in 2 weeks on the road.
4. Why was Candy Man a hit song in the ‘70s? We heard it listening to an old Kasey Kaden Too 40 Countdown on the 70s channel.
5. How did the Laverne & Shirley theme song make the Top 40? I mean who was calling radio stations to play that or saving their money to buy the record? Or any TV theme song.

Mid 70s was an interesting time in music. Your comment got me thinking (or using AI) and it appears it was more common that that.

  • Theme from S.W.A.T.
  • Welcome Back (kotter)
  • Theme from The Rockford Files
  • Happy Days
  • Making Our Dreams Come True
  • Theme from The Greatest American Hero (Believe It or Not)
  • Movin’ On Up
  • Those Were the Days
  • Love Is All Around
  • Good Times
I seem to remember Taxi was on that list as well. A friend of mine used to be a DJ - one day he gave me a CD from a Ameria top 40 program...nice copy protection mechanism! THe audio was so mis-mixed that you couldn't listen too it --- like it had been ran through an equalizer sith the bands all randomly placed...distorted but not "digital" encryption.

I am personally more of an new-wave/80's afficiando. But the channel that really gets me going on Sirus is 40's junction :) They don't record 'em like that any more.

One of the Top 40s played recently had 4-5 tv theme songs - L & S, Happy Days, welcome Back Kotter were 3 of them. I like a lot of different music. You can get some pretty cheesy stuff in the 70s.

But a lot of really good stuff too...

There are a couple youtube channels that make it to my feed periodically that look back and 70's and 80's --- recollection highway or something like that. I'll NEVER get over the shag carpet in the bathroom.

I can remember hearing the theme to Peter Gunn, Route 66 and Hawaii 50 on the radio. Not to mention No Matter What Shape Your Stomach’s In. I believe it was an advertisement for Alka-Selzer.

I like most of it, but there was some head scratchers for sure. Novelty songs. Things that sounded cool when you were a kid. I listen to the Top 40s because that often remind of good times. In my hometown, the Elks Club had a Jr Olympic pool with a deep diving pool with a high dive. Heard a lot of those hanging out there.

Dr Demento was a part of my teenage years! Fish Heads is still a complete mystery to me (Billy Mumy of "lost in space" fame was part of that duo. PROOF there was way too much drugs then.

Ok. Wayyyy too many cultural references to process but laffing hard here.
Can confirm: BMW drivers are arseholes.
Many in SoCal upgraded to Teslas - watch out for them in Costco parking lot, in moderate Biden disease progression...

Same crap manners, now as before; akshual suboptimal wannabe racecar driving ability, and bonus: full boomer entitlement on display. (Grrrr...)

Say, Is Stuckeys still a thing?
