Door Latch Detached Interior

The whole cabin door latch mount detached from the door of our 2006 550. We lost the whole assembly on the road. The plywood mounting plate appears to have been fastened to the door using only glue, no screws. Is that standard?
I have a new latch and mounting plate. Can I fasten the plate to the door w/ screw & glue? What is interior material of the (driver side) door? Any thing firm to anchor to?
Best,
Jim K

Mounted on the door itself. The latch mechanism is screwed onto a ≈3/8” plywood base “block.” The block is glued to the door, no screws. It appears to be the original configuration. No evidence of screw holes in the interior door face itself.

The mounting screws are the small, hex-head, original screws used throughout this well maintained drop.

Jim,

The mounting screws for the door latch are not the same size as the rest of the camper. The other hex heads are #8 screws and your door latch should be held on with #12 screws. If they are not #12 then someone has changed them.

Thank you Cary. I see now, yes the 6 latch screws are bigger #12 hex. On closer inspection there is more marking in the door panel from those screws than I had recalled. Still those tapered marks show only the screw tip penetrated; not enough for purchase. The upper door vent appears to show the interior door face is a solid plywood panel. So might I go with a still larger (14 hex, galvanized?/SS) to get better connection to through the mounting block? Again thanks for the quick responses.
