SUV Off-Road Suv Option

Oh once you started talking about failure to line up the TD with ....... I knew we were doomed! We have a long way to go to before we can intentionally line up the TD with anything:)) But you are right in the big picture - it is less about storage and more about the 'flow' of the lines!! Actually I grew up in heats over 100 and spent a good amount of time in Asia and never experienced AC until I came to the US on the East coast(in August - a must!)

Northern California Tempertures

Tempertures for the Redding/Lake Shasta area in summer....

Daily Ave is 81.5 degrees
Ave high is 98.8 degrees

Averages being what they are, Redding/Lake Shasta frequenly has summer days exceeding 100+ degrees. EVERYTHING in Redding is Air Conditioned!

We agonized over the purchase of A/C and eventually purchased an A/C unit largely because A/C cannot be retro-fitted. Do we need A/C?; probably not. But A/C is sure is nice for an afternoon nap; particularily if one is in Las Vegas (120 degrees).

Excuse me, Evan...MIDGET OPTION? The standard height for the CI (standard, not SUV) is just fine for all us NORMAL girls. I think it was very considerate of Cary and the crew to make the SUV version for the cloud-scrapers out there, but midget???

I'll have you know I've quite proud of my 5'2" and..(wait, let me sit up straight) 5'3" height.

Anyway, Jim likes me just as I am. Tee-hee.

I have the integrated Electric Brakes and Parking Brake.

1) I find the Parking Brake really helpful when there is only one person (me) pushing the teardrop into a parking space.

2) I have Electric Brakes and find them very helpful on long downgrades particularly in inclimate weather. Also Electric Brakes are helful reducing sway in highly congested areas such as San Francisco Bay Area or Los Angeles where panic stops are common.

I use a "Prodigy-RF" wireless brake controller...nice that I have one controller for three tow vehicles.

Does one need brakes on their teardop? No. Am I a happier camper driving mountain roads? You Betcha!

Yosemite? Which upper campground? Upper Pines? Crane Flat? Tuolumne Meadows?

Your strategy for heating is the same one we usually use. ("The heater warms up the cabin quickly, then one can turn it off and go to bed, or warm it up before you get up. Very luxurious.") Although sometimes we set the thermostat to 55 degrees for the night

LOL, Oh, I just knew Sue would pop in on this one too!

Perish the thought I would let that pass.

Jim says, "When we were ordering our TD and unsure which height option to choose, you asked how tall the cook was. Since Sue is 5'3" (on a good day) and I'm 5'11 3/4" (and she never let's me forget that!), we could order either. But as Sue does all the cooking, you suggested the standard. A few bumps on the noggin is a small price to pay for a good meal... Besides, Sue chases me out of the galley every time I go near it."

Darn straight! Jim can't cook. No, really, he can't cook. I've had one too many good pans go to Jesus on his watch.

Now, what the heck were we talking about...?

Camp On,

Thanks goodness for this forum. Waiting for an Ultra 560 and thought I put every option needed. I would have been disapointed if I didn't get the SUV option. Thought I would make trailer hitch fit no matter what I towed with. Didn't think about counter hieght. Don't know about off road camping but why limit ourselfs. On the AC/heater. Easier for me to get warm with clothing or blankets. Hard to get cool when it is hot and muggy. AC for me.

My concern is that even with SUV option, it may not have the ground clearance I would prefer.

I ride off road (dirt bikes) and sometimes you travel down some pretty rough roads to get to the camp area. I would like to get another inch or two beyond the 3 inches provided by the SUV option.

I am wondering if 15" wheels with a little taller tire might fit within the fenders.

Anyone know?
