Solar

Thanks, Bob. What internet retailer did you use? We have been cruising the internet as well, researching! We are getting the solar hook up from CI.

Does anyone know if the ZAMP 80 Watt Portable (folds into padded case) will fit in the 560 under bed storage compartment? Zamp 80W in storage case is 21"x 22"x 3.5" according to their website. Have read on Fourm that the 560 storage is 22"x 22"x 5.5". Our 560 Ultra is on order for a 2015 Spring delivery. Thanks

Here are the dimensions direct from solardeals.com website.

dimensions Closed - 20" x 21" x 3"
Dimensions Open - 40" x 21" x 1.5"

PS I have there panels and Zamp Solar have great people to work with. Dave

I have a Zamp 120 watt definatley won't fit in the under mattress storage. I also went with Solardeals.com. Nice people indeed.

Like the Zamp 120w portable, BUT if the Zamp 80w portable WITH padded storage case would fit in the 560 under mattress compartment, now that would be even better.

Sorry, but no, it will not fit. The size quoted for the 560 is a bit misleading because the recess is not actually square, it is a kinda irregular shape. It is actually about 19" square, with four rounded protrusions on the sides so it can take the spare tire. It also has rounded corners and the bottom edges are rounded off as well.

I just received the Renogy 100w folding solar panel for my trailer. Quality seems very good. Comes with a semi-hard case and has adjustable legs to set the angle of the panel.

I haven't wired it up to the plug yet or tried it with the trailer but I did test it in full sun yesterday. It was producing about 5.7 amps and 21.5 volts. About 120 watts.

Purchased from Renogy Solar through Amazon for 244.00.

Hi and thanks for this message. We have just been talking about the Renogy. Does it come with the controller or did Camp Inn provide the controller? Any information about the panels is appreciated. Which trailer do you have?

The link you provided said the panel was without the controller. for another $25.00 the 100 W comes with a controller. Is there a reason you decided to against the controller? I'm certainly a novice in the solar area.

And yes the controller with the panel is only 25.00 and it is more to have it built in but if you have it installed by camp-inn they install the wiring harness to the battery and provide a very convenient plug to hook the solar panel directly to the side of the trailer.

Well worth the money in my opinion.

My husband reminded me that we did order the solar connection from camp-inn! So we are set with that. I think we may order the Renogy this weekend. Very exciting!

Diane,

You will also want to get a length of MC4 cable. The solar panel will come with some harness wire which is meant to go on the battery side of the controller but does not come with any MC4 cable which you need to hook the panel into the plug that is supplied with the trailer.

What I did was order a 30 foot MC4 cable which I will cut in half. This will give you both of the connectors you need to hook up to the panel and make a 15ft set of mc4 cables.

Then take some of the harness wire that comes with the panel and use 2 short pieces of this to hook into the plug. Then simply strip a short section of the mc4 wires and a short section of the plug leads and crimp together. Tape up with some electrical tape and also tape the two cables together at intervals so that it stays together.

Another alternative would be to just use some lamp cord, hook into the plug on one side and attach male and female mc4 connectors to the other side.

I think using the pre-made MC4 cable is a better solution though.

Apparently it's fairly simple to bypass the CampInn controller if your panels already have their own controller. You can also order the CampiInn with the solar pulgin but without a conroller which is what I did.

I am pretty unfamiliar with this territory. We do have the CI connection and controller on order with our TD. The link above shows MC4 cable from Amazon & Renogy. Is this what is being referred to? This connects the panels to the TD connection (plug)? I'll have to get my husband to look at this thread, but I need to know about all of this as well! I appreciate all of the info.

Yes. It requires two cables but you can simply take one cable and cut in half since you only need the mc4 connections on the panel side.

The other end of the cables will be crimped onto leads that come out of the plug. I dont think you can connect the mc4 cable directly into the plug, the mc4 wire is too big.

Some place on here is a great picture by picture step by step on how to wire in the Camp Inn plug. I tried to find it. Someone else might be able to find the link for you. It is excellent. Make sure you get the polarity correct.
