Propane Tanks

As a side note my summer electric bill is more than my winter gas bill and it’s due to air conditioning. I need big batteries or as they say here in Wisconsin bat-trees.

I’m just fascinated by off-grid and partial off-grid energy solutions. I guess I have dreams of comfortable living away from services, self sufficiency, etc. Thanks for the info on your energy use in the far north!

I have 99% of the knowledge to do it...and 100% lack of the land to do it on.
Is your roof not an option? We just got our end of the year settle up statement from APS (one of two major power companies in the Phoenix AZ area), and our 12 KW roof top solar produced $193 worth of power in excess of what we used last year, which will cover about the first 4-5 months of the base charge of being connected to the grid.
Our MN home is so heavily shaded by the surrounding tall trees that there isn't a very good place for solar without taking down a bunch of those trees, which we haven't wanted to do, but may still consider if power prices continue to rise with all the power hungry AI data centers being constructed around the country.

Our house was built in 2024 and is energy efficient. Everything is electric, (hot water heater, AC, stove, etc). Our monthly cost for electricity has ranged from $65 to $140. Water is another story. It has ranged from $194 to $249.

I’m impressed with the low electric bill especially because everything is electric. My water comes free out of the ground.

Overall it cost me about $800 a month just to run the house. A third of that is taxes but it also includes care insurance with the house insurance. Then in addition to that comes me and my habits of eating and doing things.
