Looking at Joan's wonderful pictures from her stay near Grants Pass, OR, reminded me that the IRG4.0 is in 6 weeks (yeah!)Making the drive in one day is a bit much for Bob & I, so we plan to spend the night of the 25th somewhere in the area of the turnoff of I-5 to US 199. reserveamerica.com indicates a number of campgrounds in the area with available spots. Is anyone interested in joining us? If so, let us know in the next week and we can discuss preferred campgrounds. If not, see you when we arrive at the IRG4.0.

I am taking the entire week off so I will already be in California. On the way back, I am driving up the Oregon coast. I am heading back on Monday, the 30th.
 
We'll be at IRG too. Going up on Monday or Tuesday and fool around at Lassen or Lake Shasta (Sue's sister lives there) for a bit then head on over 299 to the coast. Can't wait to meet you all at last.

K&B -- our plan is to head down to Federal Way on the 24th to hook up with you and go south together on the 25th. I'll start poking around to find some possible overnights too. I think the idea is to keep the run in to Pamplin Grove on the 26th to a minimum so we arrive early enough to locate under the redwoods if possible. That means from your house a major mileage day on the 25th.

We are in Lafayette east of SF now visiting Liam David, 21 days old and our #6. Will leave Sunday and overnight in Lakehead, Ca, just north of Shasta Lake. Then up the 97 towards Bend, spemdiing the night in La Pine. Then from there to Brush Prairie, Wa, for a few days with a cousin. Then on to Lopez Island. Not sure of our timing on the run past Federal Way but will keep you posted.

Also looking forward to IRG4.0.

Fwiw, we are booked into the Riverpark RV Resort on July 25. Not super cheap but it has everything we need before a long dry camp. It should be a leisurely jaunt to IRG the next day.
 
We are almost packed up and ready to roll. Taking off early morning to begin our adventure to Oregon and then work our way down to IRG...hope to meet all of you!

Doesn't seem like it's already been 2 years since we were there.

You won't have cell service in the Grove (or in that area at all) for updates, so I will wish all who are attending a safe & fun trip. Enjoy the peace & beauty of those magnificent trees...they will take your breath away...You will love it!

Something came up with work, and I had no choice but to send a cancellation email to Dean. But the very next day my boss let me know that he could change things around so our vacation could work out after all! Yeah! I sent an un-cancellation letter off as soon as I could, and haven't heard anything one way or the other from Dean, so we will see you all there. :)

We plan to leave this Friday. We've been up and down the coast the last few years, so this time I'm thinking about going down through central Oregon - Bend, Crater Lake, etc...
 
we are on the gold coast and heading south on 101 into california today! Loving Oregon, with the exception of the pine trees flaring up my allergies. :(

Have had a great 9 days on the road so far and have taken lots and lots of pictures.

I can also say the Oreagon State Parks are very nice, clean and friendly but many are too close to the highways. Humbug was my favorite so far. Love taking walks on the beaches also.

Looking forward to the redwoods this week.

Gold Beach is a beautiful. We had some really good family friends who lived there. They owned a dahlia farm, and all of the dahlias in my mom's yard came from them (sadly the husband passed away, but the blooms every spring remind us of him). There is a great jet boat ride up the Rogue Rivere there. We took my host-mom from Switzerland on it years ago, and she couldn't believe all of the wildlife we saw (deer, black bears, squirrels, etc). It was really beautiful...although loud.

The State Parks in Oregon along the coast are mostly near the highway. It is just the way things are out there. Everyone wants to be near the beach, but the road is right there too, so it is hard. I have found state parks further inland, that are further from main roads and really quiet (but then, anything seems quiet after life with a "full-of-life" 4-year-old).

The only exception I can think of, are some of the State Parks further north on the coast. There are a set of 3 near Tillamook, that are way off the main road, and on their own road, which really needs some maintence. One is one of Jenn's favorites (Nehalem Bay), there is one in the middle that I am blanking on, and then we stayed at Cape Lookout a bit north of that (last month). I wasn't impressed with Cape Lookout, and that is the only SP I have ever said that about, so far.
