Morning Cup Of Coffee And Weather

That section of I80 in Joliet is going to be a nightmare for close to 18 more months. They're going to tear down the old steel bridge over the Des Plaines River as part of a major project that will grind traffic to a standstill. I hope to experience the completed area roadway before I croak...

That was rough. I used to go to Joliet every now and then --- I had a friend who lived there. But he has since retired and moved to Florida, so I don't need to visit. For all the times I've been there, I still want to at least visit the prison. I've seen other post videos about it -- its in pretty rough shape. But I want to see it at least once. Same with Shawshank.

We went there a ear ago and turned into the wrong parking lot. the guard who raced up on us was a jerk. Easy mistake and even once we admitted our error and were already getting back in the car he was completely unrasonable. Give a powerless person a little power - and they will use it. Whatever, if thats what it takes to make him happy....just don't give the man a gun. Oh wait.

I heard a while back that there are plans to 'save' the prison. It's an iconic piece of real estate, so it'd be nice to see it restored and maintained.

I dont know when, but there was a fire there some time ago. A number of youtubers I watch have visted it. I THINK Jacob the Carpetbagger visited it, but I can't find it -- him or Adam the Woo (RIP). More recently Daze with Joran the Lion was there - I havn't seen it yet.

The clickbait titles all make it look like it was a horrific place, but then agian, I think that is the job of prisons. It would be marvelous if we could ever figure out if they were penetentaries or reformatories. Two completely different meaning there....suffering vs redemption. Sadly one of my high school friends found himself in the system -- if what he was accused of happened (I believe it did) he deserves to still be there.

I have mixed feelingsa bout prisons....I know people who made mistakes and went 'in' only to come out hardened horrible people. I also know people who went in and got out and changed their lives. Its probably more about what you decide to do with it when you are there.

I fixed the main coach furnace in my Class A with the help of Sweeney. I was dreading working on it but dove into the repair knowing I had some brains helping me. The repair ended up being a switch that was on yet not making a total contact. I turned it off and back on and instantly the furnace blower started working. The best part of the fix was it only took 20 minutes and didn’t cost me anything.

Thanks Sweeny.

Glad to hear it! And FREE is good!

As a tech, not really :D --- Actually I'm glad to be able to help -- and I hate these --- I always feel a little guilty charging money for such a simple 'repair' even thogh I probably had the switch on my truck and would have replaced it.

Of course - my pleasure. Furnaces are one of those really generally simple appliances.

1] Sail switch failure 2 modes of failure...yours (nothing happens) or "runs then stops after a few seconds" ---- 9 times out of 10, its the switch.
2] Blower motor contamination -- read that text as "I hope you brought gloves" and have a mouseie coroner available

Beyond that you're getting into bigger repairs. Usually blower motors and burner assemblies.

@Tour 931 - did yo uget the model and serial number? I want to get a replacmenet swtich for you. I probably have one but want to verify its the right size. I'm concerned that you also had a breaker pop at the same time...

No breaker pop. Might I add it was about zero degrees when this first happened. I think the switch is just dirty. It did not want to snap open or shut. I’ll take a picture of the nomenclature plate.

I turned on the furnace again this morning and it’s still working. I can heat it okay spring and fall but winters are too much. I figure I can heat it when its above 20F but not below that.

Temperature shouldn't be a factor -- the furnace doesn't know if it is 85 or -5 --- it just runs the fan, and burns the gas. The switch is likely a standard switch used on things like water heaters -- I'm guessing vERY common --- technically, it is just a switch (on/off) no magic there. But I like it when they are in the same clip holding them in place.

That furnace is probably 35000 BTU --- that should be enough, combined with another just like it, though perhaps smaller, should keep the rig warm to at least 20 reasonably well. The cold floor will be the deal breaker. Radiant cold sucks, and there isn't much you can do about it at this point.

Newer rigs are starting to install radiant floor heating - using hot water (aquahot, truma) circulating in a closed loop. But that isn't a retrofit option.

Reminds me it may be time to be ready to replace the sail switch on my old 2010, and to stock one as a spare.

I see CampInn sells them on the tinycamper site:

Thanks to @Sweeney help I was able to double check my logic troubleshooting a "ghost draw" that turned out to be a bad digital thermostat someone prior had replaced the OEM version with...

And that I blew $900 on a supposed knowledgeable RV Repair shop that missed that diagnostic, as requested...and also compounded ignorance by cutting wire from CTEK to its signal on lion, for proper schedule,
and then tried to talk me into rewiring the whole trailer...eh, yeah...no thanks.

Lesson learned: call the Nest or if its aftermarket mods you do yourself, call @Sweeney at RVGeek.

I went there many years ago. The Over Mountain Men were underestimated.

Most of the people during that time were underestimated. The frontier life they were living was not for the weak. Just what it takes to put food on the table...from morning until night, it would have been a non stop existance then for me, laying awake worrying about what else needed to be done I havn't gotten too.

Though you don't have YouTube, so there is more time :D

I wouldn't be too hard on the RV shop. Electrical problems can be the most persnickity to figure out. However, volunteering to re-wire is just funny. Honestly, that was probably a 'get this guy out of here' bid. Had you taken the job the next would have been the "cost to do that will be $10000, but it could be more depending on what we find.

I'm curious if they even looked at the schematic in the manual. This is something you don't get from anyone these days.

As for the fee -- $900 - yikes! This is the stuff that makes me question my life chioces. I can't see how ethiclaly one can charge that kind of money for a "gee, we looked....but didn't find an answre...give us more money and we'll try again.

$900 isn't unreasonable, but hopefully they've DONE something....

I like succulents and cactus, colorful, but subtle, low maintenance and in pots you can shuffle them around in different combos, places like a growing piece of art.

All you need now is a dawg...keep LilGirl on her toes, knock stuff over...Lab puppy.

My garden croton is poisonous and needs to be in a place animals and people don’t eat or touch it.
I’m willing to bet the air in your house is very clean with all those plants. Love it!
My garden croton is known for cleaning toxins from the air. I said above they are poisonous. That’s because all the toxins are stored in their leaves until broken down.
