Howdy from Texas....1 Yr Anniversary as CI Owners!

Mark & Casandra

Junior Ranger
Today marks our 1 year anniversary as proud CampInn 560 owners!

Even though we are long overdue for a formal introduction to the fantastic CampInn Forum Family, we have been on the forum reading & learning so much since July 2013 that I feel like I already know many of you. We are Mark & Casandra (who will probably do most of the posting) from north Texas and we have four children --- #1 is out of the Marine Corps & now trying to find his way in civilian life; #2 is attending Bible College in Missouri; #3 is a high school senior; and #4 is an 11 year old “afterthought” who lights up our life. :) The youngest two camp with us most of the time, and the college boy has once since we’ve had our 560. Mark is an IT Network Manager and I am a SAH Mom and have always home schooled all of our children. We love camping, hiking, mountain biking and enjoy adventure in general as a family! And I (Casandra) personally love photography…..and have a few terabytes of photos to prove it……according to my geek DH.
In the near future, I hope to post the story of how we became CampInn owners on October 29. 2013; and also begin a log of our adventures here on the forum. So far, in our first year we have traveled 3,889 miles in 9 outings and spent a total of 46 nights in our beloved CampInn Raindrop and are looking forward to many, many more happy miles and adventures!

Adventure is out there!

Jay,
We are from a little stop in the road known as Nevada, Texas. It's about an hour northeast of Dallas. We had been planning a trip in your direction earlier this month to Inks Lake with my brother & his family, but it didn't work out....they were booked up 2 months out & we never did catch a cancellation to get a campsite. So we went to Fort Parker State Park instead and kayaked the lake and river. It was a lot of fun, but I still want to make it to Inks Lake. It looks awesome! I'm also dreaming of making it to Lost Maples for the prime fall foliage some day, but when I checked in August they were already booked up solid until early December (except for a few scattered days here & there midweek)!

Cool. Let me know if you manage to get something down this way...if we are free, we will try to make it as well.

We just did Lake Georgetown for our first trip and it was a blast. It was pretty funny to watch everyone slow down as they were driving past our campground and just stare at our trailer.

We are doing Cedar Breaks the weekend of the 9th next. Should be fun.

Nice to meet you Mark & Casandra, I'm looking forward to reading about your adventures. I have been longing for a trip to Texas ever since reading about Michael and Susan's trip across Texas. Have fun.

Hi!

Lost Maples is a beautiful spot! In the 90's my husband and I cycled around the country NJ to CA. We camped at Lost Maples. Our big memory is how we were in our tent at night hearing what sounded like a hundred dogs barking! We were told the next day that they were frogs!! It almost drove us insane! (We were there in the spring).

Happy trails!

It's just the start of the "real" camping season here in Texas! Beautiful parks and almost empty in the "off" season. We have trips coming up to South Llano and Garner State Parks (two of our favs). Can't wait!

We are hitting Ceadar Breaks next weekend. We did the north side of the lake last weekend so this weekend we are trying the south side. It was one of the few places that still had openings so we grabbed it while we could.

Great to have you in the forum with all of us! Can't wait to read of your adventures Sounds like you have a wonderful full family life. Good for you! Enjoy them and keep on camping!

Sue

Jay n Valerie & Mark n Casandra - welcome! Good to have some new fellow Texans on board. Peggy & I live in the Austin area and have spent many night in our TearDrop camping in TX State Parks. Inks Lake, Pedernales Falls, Garner, and Big Bend are a few of our favorites. We are heading to Palo Duro Canyon for the first time later this week. I would also recommend spending a weekend in Brazos Bend state park near Houston if you want to get up close & personal with the alligators - our kids loved it. It's very different from most parks in TX since it's a swampy, gator-filled kind of park:-).

Good to know, I thought there was only 1 other person in the Austin area with a CampInn. I know there is Dan/Vanessa down in San Antonio but other than that, I thought we were the only 3 in Texas hill country. Perhaps we will see you out and about soon. My travel schedule is pretty whacked until mid Feb. or so, so I doubt I will get much camping in until after that but hoping my schedule lightens up so I can get off the work travel schedule and get on the camping travel schedule.
