Going To Necedah, Wisconsin - Where To Camp?

slumry, I stayed at site sites 53 (turned around for room but more for view) and 63, just back it in. Only thing to worry about are the winds...
And yes, rain drops keep-a fall'n,even with clear skys....heheheh..

fun, I need to RSVP for last week in Sept... I'm running late on that one...

You should be safe from the claustrophobic willies in the 560. The large window in front and the skylight with the fan will help. Another thought is get the zip-down door screens so you can sleep with the doors open. Of course, only you can decide what works best and renting a 560 is a good idea. Get the feel of her, see how roomy she really is and you'll be sold.

Good luck and keeps us posted.

Camp On,

Sue

Susan, alcat my love for the window is from the fact that I don't like small spaces. But we're are going up there torrent one and test if I Greek out.

Sorry if my post about windows seemed insensitive to your claustrophobia. I apologize.

No worries. I know that's its a stupid thing. Logically there's plenty of room. But then te panic sets in and it seems like tree is no air. Started when they tried to get a MRI. The tube was too small.

I do too. It will mean my dream of seeing the country years sooner than buying a Winnebago. The 560 is way so cool.

The bright side — the 560 is way bigger than an MRI! I hope it works out for you!

no, it's not "stupid" - it's just how you are wired. We're all different in different ways. Some people hate heights; some people hate small places; etc. Viva la difference, eh?

I am booking a spot at Mirror lake and several of the sites say "The double-wide, gravel, driveway is on an incline." and one says "The double-wide, gravel, driveway is on a 5% incline."

Should I be worried backing in a campinn for the first time driving it?

Should not be a problem. Four things you need to remember when backing.

One hand on bottom of steering wheel the trailer will turn in the direction you move your hand.

Patience patience and more patience.

Oh yeah ignore all the folks LOL at the rookie  :D
They were a rookie at one time. Laugh have fun and enjoy the trip.

Benn or Meribeth,

I have always been spatial. Naturally point to correct "left" hand of person facing me etc.
Backing a car with center or outside mirrors also came pretty natural as a teen.

Your suggestion about the hand on bottom of wheel doesn't always work.
In my case, my brain just sees the hand on bottom of wheel moving left
and proceeds to see that hand imaginarily moved to the top moving right ( wierd I know).

I do find the Scoop or Swoop toward target then out works.
Google the words "Scoop backing" for a video.
I extend it to finish by beginning to straighten the car. That helps to set the initial position & angle
of car and trailer. Drive like starting at the tip of a skinny spoon and
tracing the curve of the bowl and extend on to the beginning of the handle.
The last bit leaves the car kinked vs trailer reasonable to start...

Your two pieces of advice at the end are golden. I just had to sit and think for a minute or two.
If I react quick I do the car alone direction(wrong) and have to ease forward and try again...

No need to worry. Once you have the trailer where you want it, just be sure to have a wheel chock, or large rock, in place before you un-hitch from your car.

As far as the backing - if you follow the 'put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel and move it in the direction you want the trailer to turn' rule, you will be fine. Just take your time and it will work.

Ninjamini,

Everyone starts off spooked by backing.
You should also just stay aware of the trailer going forward.
Not a big worry, Camp-Inn trailers are SHORT, and it quickly becomes second nature.

1) Wait longer before pulling back in if you pass.

2) You need a longer gap to pull out unless someone is nice.
Since the car drives a bit more sluggish this feels natural, but the trailer length adds too.

3) The common gotcha is that the trailer turns inside the car. If you take a right turn
like normal for a car, you can drag the trailer wheel up over the curb.
Worse is a right hand road or drive with car parked tight before it - Crunch!
This is easy to get around one of three ways:
a) Start a foot or two further from the curb
b) When you start up, turn away from the turn first
(Imagine the "wide turns" sign on a semi)
Do check your left mirror before swinging wide...
c) pull out straight and wait a second before turning
harder.
(this is the reverse of 'a' if entering a 4 lane road)

4) Look and think before driving deep into a tight place like a packed Waffle House parking lot
that you may have to back out of. I avoided 30 yards of rutted grass in Alabama.
At worst the CI can be pushed back on a flat by hand...

I don't know what you people are going on about. Backing up the trailer is EASY

Before we backup, I get out of the car. I then stand outside and swear at my wife until she's done

I have survived, so far, but it's possible she is poisoning me slowly....

-Al

Al, hang in there... Poison might be a better way to go than trying to back up with everyone watching... heheh...
Nice profile photo, kewl...
