Fridge / Cooler Dometic Ac/dc Refrigerator

Evan, I looked at our unit and we don't have the gap that this one seems to have between the 2 rivets. My seam is there but it looks like it's filled with caulking. If I can get FileZilla working I'll post a pic.

So we are out on our trip west and have an electrical question:
We are plugged into 120 at the campground and have the dometic plugged with DC plug.
We have tripped the breaker several times when trying to heat water with our electric hot pot plugged into the AC in the galley. Should this be happening? Thanks

Pat,
I can't really answer your question but I can tell you that the same thing happens to us. We can't have anything else running when we heat water with our electric kettle. Some times we run a second power cord from campground's outlets (either 30A or 20A) to use the electric kettle. Our toaster oven (when toasting not when using the oven) will also sometimes trip the breaker.

We wanted to try sliders under the dometic instead of having a towel under and over it. Thinking it would give better air flow and not needing to fish for the towel when it falls behind. I had some furniture sliders like (http://www.amazon.com/Waxman-7030-Reusable-Sliders-Oatmeal/dp/B000PB4G04/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1343580331&sr=8-14&keywords=furniture+sliders)

so tried 4 of them at the corners. I just set them under the 4 corners. They raise the dometic a little over a 1/4" and slide easily forward and back and reduce the towel clutter. I did not put any adhesive on them so will see if that is needed in the future.

I think they improve the air flow and ease of movement.

Perfect!

I just placed my order for one. The site says they are on backorder but that new inventory is arriving every day.

I only joined this group a few weeks ago, and came upon this thread long after the originally posted sale was over.

Thank you for the head's up!

Thanks Rick, I also ordered one and they say shipping end of Sept. No problem for me as my trailer will not be finished till October but thanks again. Quite a savings.

Dave

Actually, Dave, it was Stephen & Shirley (Slumry) that gave the head's up and that we BOTH need to thank. Mine came last week, although I've been so busy I haven't even had a chance to take it out of the box yet.

Six or seven weeks until done? SO close, and yet SO FAR, right???? Hang in there!

A suggestion for Camp-Inn

Why not make silver stick on tape about 2" high with camp inn on it for purchase. Those that have a Dometic and don't want to stare at it can put the tape over it and it is good advertising for the trailer.

Promote Camp Inn not Dometic or others.

Sliders for the Dometic
With the dometic I found the towel cumbersome. Impeded the air flow and fell behind the cooler, etc.
So first I tried some furniture slides I had at home. They worked but were loose and tended to work their way back under the dometic.

So I bought a pack of 4 Magic Sliders 2” diameter. www.magicsliders.com
These have double face adhesive pads and attach pretty easily. They slide nicely and only raise the dometic about ¼”.

I think these will work well will see next camping season. Our plan is to slide the dometic forward and ease it onto the table by the sink to avoid a lot of lifting.

Reading earler post some have made handles out of straps for the Dometic. Will the Dometic not fit with the handles it comes with?

Since I will be picking my trailer up in the near future should I just leave the handles off? I don't plan on a lot of camping on the way back as I would like to get organized at home one time before I plan different adventures.

Traving 2000 miles home with who knows what weather will be eneough for a start.

Thanks for any advise on this. Dave

Dave

The standard handles will not work, makes the Dometic to wide to fit. I bought the rubber type handles mentioned and found that I could only mount one of them since the straps did not reach up to the top edge of the Dometic. Again too much width.

I'd try it with no handles as there are grab spots on the sides. I did buy the insulated cover. Think I got it from AdventureRV.net. Finding that I put it on a couple of Costco yellow micro fibre shop towels (really love em for the trailer) and slide it in and out just fine. Grab the side indentations and put it on the side table or where ever.

You can use the grab spots on the side, but I was getting nervous about it because I kept hearing a click, like it was breaking. I would be careful depending on the weight you put in it. It was one reason I made the straps for it, especially since, as Gary said, the ones that come with it don't fit when it is in the spot in the galley.

The trouble with the grab spots is that you are doing the heavy lifting with your fingertips. That's why the straps are helpful.

So I decided to re-do the straps that I had attached to the Dometic. i had tried the pre-made straps that were suggested in one of the other posts. These are the black straps with a rubber exterior. Unfortunately they did not extend above the top of the cooler so I could only use one of them due to the width. So I did a re-work and built the following:

1. Materials -
a. 1 inch hollow core webbing. Found this in the climbing department of an outdoor store. Total of 51 inches
b. 6mmx12 bolts with washers - quantity 8
c. 1/2 wood dowell Cut to 6 1/2 inches
2. Cut the webbing to length of 25 1/2 inches
3. Insert the wooden dowells to the the center of the strap
4. You will need to put two holes through the ends of each length. I used a small butane torch with a soldering tip to burn/melt them through. Anything like that should work. The one hole is about an 1/2 inch from the end and the centers are about 2 inches/50mm.
5. Mount the straps to the cooler

You can see from the photos that they extend above the top of the cooler with enough room for your hands and then lay on the top to the sides so that you can still slide in the side table. Note that I have the Dometic cover on my cooler but should work fine without the cover.

Bought the sliders at Home Depot. Really work well. I have the dometic cover on my cooler and the feet extend through the bottom so I can still attach them.
