Inquiry 20th Dam Gathering Of The Tears

I talked with Grant Whipp at his shop this afternoon. Grant is the organizer for the "Dam Gathering of the tears".

Grant said he's currently expecting over 200 tears since he has received 150+ registrations so far.

I'm checking with them now, email, to see if it's still open and just how crowded it might be. Not excited about 4 drops sharing one site.. if it's one sited one drop then I'm in if there is room etc...
Will post when I hear back...

Ok, looks like 120+ as of today.

I just signed up, 4 nites, going down Wed out on Sunday, rtn through Central Oregon.

Grant wrote back when asked if "Full":

Hi, Frank!

No, not full ... yet! Currently just over 120 pre-registrations. Actually, we'll have plenty of room (200+ easily), but we are asking attendees to expect to share their sites with at least one other trailer (nearly all sites have room for at least two, many others will hold three, four, and more. And, we'll also be utilizing a third loop of the 'grounds that is normally set aside for big rigs. It'll be cozy, but not at all "packed".

Hope you decide to join us! There are quite a lot of folks coming down from the PNW, including two couples from BC, Canada (you'll be traveling in good company!). Safe traels, happy trails, and as always ...

CHEERS!

Grant Whipp

Fun? but looking forward to a single site, I hope?

That's great Frank. I don't think you will have to worry about sharing especially with the second loop opening up.

Yeah! Frank will be there! I think we are up to 5 Camp-Inns from our neck of the woods now (are others going and haven't spoken up?). We are rolling in the 1st, and dead-heading back to PDX on the 5th, with a stop on the 30th in Eugene to see my folks. Sounds like it is going to be a good time. I am picking up a pine wood derby kit tomorrow so Mick and Laddy can build a car for the races. Should be fun!

Yep, looking forward to it, I think?? heheh
I"m not a big fan of crowds so not sleepless at night in anticipation... but figure have to do it right???

Jenn, you betcha, Pics I can do...

Just finishing up reconfiguring for longer term travel. If I didn't have the other trips planned I would do the Oly Peninsula...
How long will you be around... June/July??? but that's BKT time so planning on the fall.. AFTER Sept...
I get back mid June and pretty much open from then on...

Planning you know... it's a double edged sword... there's always something that will come up and interfere with something else, go Figure...

Yah, I need a goal or point of destination... so I get some idea of what I'm doing...

Trips schedule here, but need to update with more..
https://sites.google.com/site/poolesweb/announce_temp

First "Starter" trip was to Deschutes, got blown out, tried another, same thing, did a good trip to Lopez Island and good weather too. Camano Island is a nice one too... did that, but closed lower loop, best one. Just as well, would have been blown out there too..

Pics as I process them are here..

in no particular order.

But stay tuned, Utah will be the longest 7+days... so far..

I'm getting there.. heheh, just taking longer than I thought it would...
sigh, one step at a time.. .

Leaving Monday and staying at 7 feathers resort/casino Mon night then on to Lake Shasta. Wan't to go early as this is our first major trip and to try and get a favorable spot.

Hope to meet some of you there.

Dave

Hmmmm.... Well, the best laid plans of mice & men...

It's just me, I know, I know, but after driving 10hrs from Seattle to Antlers a quick round about the loops and I KNEW this wasn't going to work. Luckily I met up with Sarah and Joan but alas eventually they tried but didn't work.

After about 20-min driving around the park, aside from knowing the fellow Camp Inn campers I left. Just could see any reason to stay, not my cup O Tea.. min 2-6 per site, misquotes (Sarah found those little buggars... Wasps, dirt/dust/ hot, just not going to work. Left after about 20 mun, headed and stayed at Klamath Fall KOA which was actually nice. My thinking is KOA are good during the OFF season.

After KOA (today driving for Wed was 13 hrs headed up to Palasaides Park that Bob & Kathy suggested. Saw it, different name and Garmin kept saying it's .4 miles.. continued on, marina... along the river, crossed the bridge, up to the closed Deschutes park, back down a river, single lane bridge (and yes, I was getting my doubts Garmin knew where it was) back up to the butt, end up along a dusty=dirt road for about a mile and finally sunk in. Never use the GARMIN to pinpoint a state park. It shows you the center of the 20-SqMilesk miles of the park itself. went back to the park found a spot and tried to figure out what was taken or not. Figured I'd just stay to Sun when I actually had a RSVP. Sigh... I was also off a day, thinking it was Wed.. bottom line, stayed one night, now up at Maryhill SP and enjoying it. 2-3 days, not sure yet, but warm, grass open spaced... sweet...
So, I certain everyone had a good time, jut not my Cup O'Tea...
cheers..

Oh, Frank. So sorry it didn't work out for you. Good for you to allow yourself to set out on another plan (although I don't think you have much difficulty following your own path!) Glad Klamath Falls worked out and that you found Palisades Cove SP - we don't have enough confidence in our GPS (a cheap Magellan) to let it lead us into the wilderness. We happened to stop for gas in Culver and asked for directions from a local. Maryhill is a beautiful SP and glad it's working out for you - being near the winery isn't bad and the museum is worth a stop.

Anyway, you know you'll have fun at Mossyrock!

Frank, I have no less than 11 bites on my face from that first night while I was making dinner (I had repellant on and a citronella candle burning, and they were still swarming me), and several others on my hands, neck, legs and feet. I ended up moving down where Joan and 3 other Camp-inns are (they have dubbed us Camp-Inn Corner — we should probably have flags made for future gatherings!), and there isn't as much of an issue here, luckily. I was ready to high-tail it the next morning. Lets just say Mick and I can walk into a swarm and they all go for me, and don't touch him. Poor Laddy got his first 15 mosquito bites too (one of them being his first...we are usually lucky in this regard, not this trip). We did enjoy the pool here, especially since at 5:00 today it said it was 99.8 degrees in the shade. It was blazing hot. The pool was very refreshing.

So far, counting you, we have seen 11 Camp-Inns at the gathering. It is great meeting new folks, and seeing old friends too. This forum is a wonderful community, and makes getting together in person great. We are also meeting all sorts of new people (non-camp-inn people), and it has been fun. This is a pretty neat gathering with some great people. I recommend it to folks. Tomorrow is the Gravity Car Finals (AKA Pinewood Derby – Laddy's car didn't make it, but they are letting him race anyway, and one of the guys is helping him make some adjustments on his car, which is super nice) and we have the big wedding.

I will wrap up by saying the creativity represented in this campground is second to none, and the people are just as spectacular. It is pretty neat to be a part of it, especially on it's 20th year. Frank, sorry it isn't your thing, but completely understand. Hope the rest of your trip is great, it was nice seeing you, and we'll see you at Mossyrock!

PS-I don't have A/C, and I haven't regretted it yet. The Fantastic Fan has been amazing! Maybe one day I will wish I had it, but this is the hottest we have camped, and we are super comfortable tonight. Just FYI!

Kathy Bob:
The trip was an educational one for longer trips which I was counting on, just not to the extent it happened. Sadly or not, I'll leave a campsite if it just a PITA and move on.

Lessons learned: heheh
- load all the immediate stuff last for first out. To allow for quick one-niters.

-Stop at 2pm or so to enjoy it a bit. Using the 2-2-2 schedule (I heard it first from Jenn but apparently well known).

-Don't use Garmin (even the expensive ones) to find locations of a RV park in State Parks. (about 3 third time it's led me astray heheh... Sigh, I just don't learn quickly.

- KOA are a good thing when backed up against the wall during the OFF season that is... during summer season?? YIKES!!! heheh Driving from Antlers I had no idea where to go. Luckily saw the KOA signs and without having to pull out all the electronics just followed the signs.. ready for the worst, but turned out very well, enjoyed it.

- Pack lighter. Have too, as I get the 2 Yeti Coolers on Mon. 35 & 75 whatever s Qt/Gal?? - note to self, need bigger truck, LOL

Sarah:
Ohhhhh Mannnn... Gawd, I feel your pain, Skeeters. Good for you all to stick it out with the Skeeters... but I certainly agree on the creative builds they had down there. Some were just down right fascinating and would have loved to see them. It was just a combo of the "Perfect Storm" no one thing in particular...
Anyway good it worked out for you all. Look forward to photos.

Sunning myself at MaryHill, been here several times and oh what difference a season makes. Green grass etc... Now is the "Sweet Spot" warm, green and bugs haven't quite made it out yet.

Anyway, home on Sunday, clean up, 'look Purdy' again and head out on Thursday to Utah for a week. Have to reconfigure the pecking order now with the 2 new coolers... Beast 1 and Beast 2... heheh

Never changes, always something new...
cheers from Maryhill..

(Gwad, Wifi, Verizon 4g, is just painful here..heheh, worse than dialup.. sometimes works/sometimes doesn't so could be some double postings) trying it again..

Maryhill today...
(and of course, since i spoke so highly of it, the "Infamous Winds" are starting to act up... taking Canopy down now. Didn't really need to put it up but it was a new one and wanted to make sure it worked. It does and less cumbersome than the other 2 I got.. sigh, I'm done with canopies..heheh for now anyway..)

Hi, Frank. Our "long-trip with one night stops" strategy is similar to yours. Often, we won't even unhook and we can open the rear door just enough to move stuff in and out. Bob is convinced that the weight of "the furniture" in the TD helps with gas mileage, so unless we know for sure that weather is going to be crappy (rain, snow) when we arrive, we move the stuff from cabin to car and then back in the morning. Unless we're really trying to make time - like through Wyoming and Idaho ahead of a storm - we try to stick with the 300 mile/stop by 3 or 4 approach. If we're "camping to travel" we're not likely to stay in one spot for more than a night. KOAs and other commercial campgrounds certainly have their pros and cons. We've hit some real winners and a few stinkers. On this past trip it wasn't unusual for us to be the only campers - felt a bit weird but once we started heading northwest again from Alabama it was too cold to sit outside the cabin for any length of time anyway.

Now that the weather is improving, we can do more "travel to camp" trips and we'll be more likely to stay in state, national or COE campgrounds.

Every trip we have a lenthy discussion about what we should've/could've left behind - Bob is always looking for a lighter load. To be honest, our list hasn't changed much over the last 2 or 3 trips.

New truck? There you go!

Kathy
