Winterizing on YouTube

I missed opening the valve - Craig's last point. Could this be a problem? I did not do it last year either?
 
Great video - just a couple of questions:

#1 - Do I need to winterize if stored in a garage in Texas? It does freeze here. We hope to use it somewhat during the month of Feb which is a very cold month usually in Texas.

#2 - How do you De-winterize it? Open all drains and drain the antifreeze and flush obviously, but for how long on the fresh water tank?

#3- A statement - Make some more of these videos to show to buyers past, present and future to see the "how to's" of everything! Include it when the Drops are shipped for sure and even if they're picked up - people forget!
 
Yes, Craig - these are great videos. If you make more of them we'll have to give them their own section in the Links list.

Not a big issue. There is only a small amount of water in that area and over time the anti-freeze will slowly mix with it. Even if it freezes, there isn't anything to break.

Opening the valve just gets the anti-freeze everywhere.

Couple of answers to ladymc:

If a bowl of water would freeze solid, then I would say Yes, winterize it. If it would just get a thin crust of ice that would melt in a day or two, you will be fine. This goes for cold weather camping as well. If it is cold enough to freeze things solid, you should winterize your system and use bottled water or melt snow.

We plan on doing this. This was the first of (hopefully) many.

#2 - How do you De-winterize it?

We plan on doing the De-Winterizing video before next Spring. And since Spring comes early down south, we will have to do it sooner.

So, did I miss the video or has production been delayed? I mean with customizing #500 and all, where would one find the time to do a video?

Is it safe to say a good flushing of the fresh water tank and faucet will suffice or should the FW tank be sanitized too?
 
Is it possible to empty the tanks and use one of those connectors that you blow air through the lines to clear out any water that is left over. Would this damage the pump? Is there a minimum and maximum air pressure you would use? Could you open the faucet and blow it out then close the faucet and open the sprayer to blow that out? If it would work I like this idea better than using chemicals.
I'm just studying up and getting ready to take the trailer out and give her one last bath and check everything out so it will be ready to load up. I do hope to take a couple of winter trips depending on how my Mom is doing.

No, blowing it out will not do it. That will not get all the water out and then when you are done it will run back into the water strainer and you will still freeze damage the strainer.

The chemical used in RV antifreeze is straight potable alcohol. There is not a concern of it being safe to drink if not all is removed in the un-winterizing process. We actually have one customer who uses Gin to winterize his. He has a source for Gin that is reject from a distillery. Didn't pass inspection for going in the bottle and shipped to a customer but works perfectly fine to winterize the camper.

Craig states in the video to use a half gallon of antifreeze. Honestly though, that is a very "make sure we got it" statement. It really only takes about a quart to do the job.

Thanks Cary, I'm happy to hear it is only alcohol. That eases my mind and it is really an easy process. Since I don't have access to gin cheap and considering the taxes on alcohol in my state I guess I will get the stuff from the RV supply place.
