We plugged in the speaker jack-to-USB cable into the television's speaker/headphone jack, then routed the cable to the adjacent streetside cabinet, holding the cable in place along the bottom edge of the television mount with zip ties. We had already routed a USB cable there, which we use to recharge phones and minor electronic stuff.
We have a micro SD card with a few hundred hours of music on it, so our primary use of the speaker is to play that music. When using it in that manner, we connect the USB cable to keep it charged. We swap to the jack-to-USB cable on the rare occasion that we watch a DVD.
The speaker has excellent sound quality, and since it is portable we can listen to music outside if we want to. If the television had bluetooth, we would just need to pair them up, and that would be that. If you do have another device with bluetooth that could take advantage of this (if you keep your music on your phone, perhaps) this setup might have some advantages for you.
