That's right Sarah, we're camped on the B loop, tucked into the trees away from the bluff and the beach to avoid the strong gusts from the Pacific. There is a series of storms coming in so we'll be here till next week when the weather is forecast to clear, then we'll continue south.

Enjoying your state very much, long beach combing walks between the heavier downpours. We've been seeing oyster catchers and pelicans from the beach ( pelicans are a rare sight in northern Washington ) and hummingbirds and red headed woodpeckers in the campground. Very few other campers so we pretty much have the place to ourselves, nice!

I really like that park. If memory serves, we were also in the B loop a few years back when we went through the Redwoods. We were in a spot across from the park hosts and near the playground. After lots of cold showers, that was the first place we came across a nice warm one and the Lad was telling anyone who would listen how much better the showers in Oregon are over California. I guess I traumatized him a bit, but it put hair on his chest...or something!
Not sure if you up are hearing the beeping of backos and logging trucks. We heard them all through the night while we were there. Turns out there is a mill near by. Didn't realize it until we got home, just heard lots of beeping. The walk to town is nice and you really can't beat that section of beach (heck, you can't beat our coast...Washington too, but I am partial to Oregon as I know it better). Hopefully weather clears for you a bit. How is the tide pooling? Have the critters come back? There was nothing there when we visited.
PS-is that an apple tree? What are the red things on it?

No apples, just a berry bush in the foreground out of focus.
I agree, the campgrounds in Oregon are way better than California, heck I bet most states have better parks. California parks at one time were very nice but the defunding of services has really gutted them, but the weather is warmer and drier so what a ya gonna do. ( some state parks are still very well maintained but it's usually because local volunteers/money is used, like for example the friends of the redwoods organization )
We cannot believe how much rain has come down in the past few days, couldn't even go for a walk yesterday. We've gotten used to the rain shadow back home. The average rain fall in Brookings is 76 inches vs 19 in Port Townsend and 20 in Coupeville.
We have not seen creatures in the tide pools here so far. We have spent a fair bit of time tide pooling the west coast over the years and I'm not saying this because it's my home state... but there is good and consistent tide pooling on the Kalalock beaches in the Olympic National Park in Washington.

Look what's camped next to us at Hearst San Simeon SP!
4by8 American Teardrop with a very cool dandelion motif
I guess they have teardrops off the Peninsula too.
Did you notice the green hills in the background, they got a lot of rain here last week and all the brown we experienced last winter is gone...
... so these heavy hooved horses that came to visit us over here where the grass is greener have plenty to eat...
These may be the decendants of the horses that worked the Hearst ranch last century.
... these daffys are going wild..
Saw these daffodils near the San Simeon creek under a canopy of Sycamore tress.
... and the mushrooms are growing big and strong...
Found this 8" diameter monster growing on a north facing hill above San Simeon creek, I'll say they got some rain last week!
