The "Dew Drop Inn" Chronicles

birder526 said:
We do feel guilty over the low mpg, however it is running better than we thought at 25 mpg -v- the 19 to 21 mpg noted for this vehicle.

I love the idea that a mini can tow a TD, Michael!

Toyo-4R's are great TV's, Diane. You'll enjoy.

We tow with our '09 VW Rabbit. Recently averaged about 24 mpg towing "Vuggie" 3000 miles to the California Redwoods (and over Colorado's 11,158-foot I-70 Continental Divide!) Vuggie tows like a charm, and only appears to lower our mileage by about 3 to 6 mpg depending on the terrain and weather.

Worst part using a small & low TV, is sometimes we drag the hitch if we don't take steep gutters diagonally.

Regards, T

P.S. Hey Mikey, you inspired us to drive to northern CA just to see the Redwoods again. BTW, the Crescent City KOA was fabulous and Agaricus augustus (The DELICIOUS Prince) mushrooms were sprouting right in the campground!

T, if the Dewey and crew have inspired then we are certainly humbled. Post some big tree pictures and maybe a few of them shrooms so we know what's safe to eat.
Love your mpgs!

Michael

I asked Susan what she wanted to do on her birthday and she said "Let's go camping" so we're off for a stay at Point Hudson RV Park adjacent to Point Hudson Harbor, maybe the quaintest on all of the west coast.

Susan says thanks Jenn.

The Dew Drop Inn is now harbor side! We're in site 360, a non service site, but with our solar panel... It's all good! We spent the winter of 2012/13 aboard "Talelayo" in slip 22 of Point Hudson harbor. Couldn't ask for a better location, right in the heart of Port Townsend, everything is within walking distance.

The Rakers are having there annual car show this weekend ( local hot rod club) so there will be plenty of activities. Will post a few picks of my favorite potential TVs at the show!

Good Morning Port Townsend Washinton!

PT in a nutshell... Point Hudson Harbor with the new Nortwest Maritime Center building in the foreground, the ferry terminal in the background and the Olympic Mountains in the distance.

Susan thanks you Diane and Pat and says she had a great birthday. Susan's a happy camper!

Michael, you take some incredible pictures. Thank you for sharing them. I'm pretty much a lousy picture taker so don't even have a camera except for my phone so am particularly grateful.

Pat, I'm pretty sure Michaelo takes all his pictures with his iphone then does his posts from the phone. Am I right Michaelo?

That is correct Mike. I just now walked down the dock to take this picture of "Martha" that is home berthed at Point Hudson Marina with my IPhone.

photo31.jpg

The schooner "Martha" designed by BB Crowninshield and built at the WF Stone boat yard in San Francisco in 1906 and recently restored to perfection.

I posted this to my Wordpress account with my IPhone where I obtain a URL address for this photo.

I fact check on line at Wikipedia or what have you with the IPhone when I write the copy cuz I'm no expert.

I copy and paste this address into my notes app on my phone where I write the copy.

Then I copy and paste this completed post into the response box on the forum and wallah all you folks get to keep up with what's happening with the Dew Drop Inn, all done on my IPhone from start to finish, no camera, no computer, no wifi hot spot, just the phone, makes it easy to post with just the one device.

Michael

Yes Jenn, all of the above and some of the shanty song circles are going to be held there in the future, great facility.

Michael

Sweet, need to get proficient with my iPhone soon, technology is great if you know how to use it. keep the great photos coming Michael

By my reckoning you have a few weeks before picking up your trailer Mike, plenty of time to bone up on all the cool technology so all of us can read and see the pictures of your adventures. Like Jenn says "Post Post Post!"

We got a surprise but most welcome visit from Bear at our harbor side campsite today. Bear was taking the ferry back to his digs on Whidbey Island, coming back from a trip to the coast proper. So glad to see you Bear even though it was too short a visit. Hope to see you again soon.

Michael

Our neighbor on the Admiralty Inlet side of our campsite left so our view really opened up.

photo32.jpg

I'll spare you the agony and not post a photo of the recently departed.

Jenn came over from Whidbey Island to catch a flick at the Rose theater, PTs art house bijou and also to visit with the Dewey and crew. It's a great pleasure to spend time with members of the Camp-Inn family, always fun. Thanks for stopping by Jenn. Susan says thanks again for her birthday week treat. Very yummy!

Michael

Went to the Rakers Car Club meet yesterday while camped at Point Hudson, saw a couple of potential backup TVs for Tina, our Mini Cooper Clubman. This little number might be a better fit for our most famous forum members...

I had my eye on this 56 Pontiac Star Chief...

,,, but then we'd have to get a purple Alcan cover, I don't know if they come in purple.

Course this woody's exterior matches Dewey's interior!

photo38.jpg

Now the birthplace of our birthday week girl is Detroit so she recognizes legendary Motor City Iron when she sees it.

photo35.jpg

But I think in the end the most practical potential TV in the whole show was this pickup, just think of all the extra gear you can haul with this thing...

photo40.jpg

...and the way it is equipped...

photo39.jpg

...if your neighbor runs his generator after 8 pm coyote can blast him out of the campground!

We made a couple of offers, we'll have to wait and see what pans out.

Michael

Susan and I have this running bet on our afternoon walks to Sequim Bay SP, whether we see an eagle on it's usual roost in a tree on route and if there will be a teardrop trailer in the SP. We often see one or two eagles In that tree and we did see a Camp-Inn in the campground once but there's never been both until yesterday. We saw the local breeding pair of bald eagles in their favorite tree and we saw "Stella" Camp-Inn # 627 and owner Jim at the SP. We stopped by and had a nice visit, then we all headed back to the marina for drinks and dinner aboard "Talelayo" I love to spend time with members of the Camp-Inn family swapping TTTs, Tall Teardrop Tails, even if it is afloat! Thanks for visiting Jim, bring Ani next time, looking forward to meeting her.

Michael

First crab of the season!

photo.jpg

Shameless posers

Not strictly a teardrop story, just wanted to keep everyone up to date on what the Dewey crew is up to. We're eating Dungeness Crab! Caught right here on our home waters (for the present) of Sequim Bay by your's truly. It's what's for dinner!

Michael

Mmmmm, Last Dungeness crabs the wife and I had were on a pier in Santa Barbara, live from the tank to the pot to the table. Little butter few good beers nothing better. High on the bucket list for a return trip with the CI this time.
