I saw the brackets for Ron's roof rack at IRG and wondered what he used them for...

Here are some photos that Ron sent me - very impressive.

First, a hitch mounted bracket to provide rear support...

Second, another support for the front... and the roof rack is in place.

Here's the whole rack

Now for the fun part - the front bracket swivels to accept the front edge of the canoe.

All in all, it looks like a very slick setup. Maybe Ron will even chime in and tell us how he did it... :)

Ron says:

I simply welded up the front and rear swivel mounts for the canoe. The rear mount base also has a receiver on the end so I can mount a bicycle rack in conjunction with the canoe rack. On top is a plywood box with compartments to hold life vests, seats, oars, and trolling motor. The wood box is painted with about ten coats of black oil base paint. The box has 'slots' in it for a perfect fit on the roof rack and 'slots for the center cross bar on the canoe so the boat will remain stable while transporting. Time for one person to mount the canoe from the ground to the roof and tied down is about 5 minutes.
