Protecting bike from weather

Not to hijack but what does everyone do about protecting the bike from weather?
My last trip was 8 weeks with my bike on top of the 560. No rain but when I got home I noticed the brake rotors and bolt heads had rust. I've looked at bike covers but they say that they dont hold up to highway speed wind

This is a question I have asked several bike shops that are selling ebikes --- I have not gotten a good clear answer from any of them.

I have a folding ebike -- when I take it with me, it goes into the back seat, or trunk. I lose a lot of storage sapace but its the only way I can be sure. The folding bikes fit into BIG plastic bins they sell at the home depot...its not perfect but it gets me there.
 
Thanks. I can fit it in the van but as you say it takes up alot of space.
Perhaps I can move everything else onto the roof rack. Remove front wheel and put the bike upside down.
 
I've seen some e-bikes on the back of RVs and Sprinters, with covers on them.

I'd check a couple places online; youtube, reddit, mtbike forums, ebike forums, Sprinter forums, etc.

I've driven a lot of miles with an urban commuter/cross on the hitch behind my TV alone, and 6000 miles mounted on the CI rear hitch...and for awwhile mounted on roof rack with front fork in a holder, wheel inside...
that all suffered drying out in the wind and rain, needing extra attention on chain lube and brake cables and rubber parts and so on.

So a cover is worth the investment if you put a lot of miles on with a nice bike attached. I wouldnt try to cover one on top, but I think the wind shadow behind TV or teardrop will help the cover last longer.
