Popping Sound When Plugging Into Shore Power

I am getting a very slight but noticeable popping sound at the trailer outlet when inserting the plug from a live drop cord.

Anyone else experience this or any thoughts?

Thanks, Randy

FWIW It sounds like the TD has something wanting to draw power as soon as it's available (probably the charger at least) and there's a little arc between the trailer prongs and the plug contacts as they near each other at maybe not quite a square angle, so one is making contact just slightly before the other. You might try plugging the drop cord into the TD before powering it, but you may get the arc at the male end of the drop cord when plugged into the power outlet too. I guess something else it could be is that the male plug prongs on the TD may have become loosened over time if the cord has been pulled off forcefully at an angle ( like forgetting to unplug before pulling away from where ever it's plugged in, but who would do that?;)) I don't think it's anything to worry about though. Just my 2cw.

It happens -- your onboard charger is probably the culprit. The initial charging up its capacitors with a big inrush current. I've gotten into the habit of turning off the breaker (at the power pole) then plugging in the camper --- flip the breaker back on. The 'switch' contacts close much faster than plugging the cord in, and it is preferable at home its still an issue though.

Good tip! Some of those rusty stands in rainy areas make me a bit nervous about sparking and arcing, including bad grounds...nothing like a 110v jolt to wake you up after a long day driving and late night setup, in an older campground.

I like the off the beaten path places vs the ones where I'm jammed in the tin canyon of a couple big rigs with the new disco lights left on all night...
