PACO PAD'S as a mattress...

Hello All,
Recently there has been some discussion on the condensation issues in the Teardrops under the mattress. Those problems are, I would guess, more inherent in the trailers that are outside the majority of the time. Kept garaged and taken out for a few days/nights at a time a few times a month there are probably no issues. However, as soon as our 500 Special arrived here in Central Florida...the heat and humidity capital of the nation (in our opinion!) we took out the really nice 4" mattress it came with, placed it on our bed at home and re-installed our super comfortable Paco Pad's!! We have 4 3" El Grande Paco's that give us 6" of divine comfort and support. They are great! Completely surrounded by strong vinyl (river raft boat material), they are self-inflating and are super easy to put in the cabin or to remove if cleaning is needed. They fit absolutely perfectly length and width wise. Of course I put a nice mattress pad around them and then a queen fitted sheet. A twin size lightweight down comforter is our top sheet/blanket. Jack's Plastic Welding is the company that makes them but the cheapest place to purchase is thru Austin Canoe and Kayak. Make a minimal order from them and they always send a coupon good for 15% or 20% off one item. Just order one at a time and you will save about $40 off each Pad and here in Florida there is no tax and always free shipping!! They will last indefinitely!! MY motto...Pay once and cry once...don't buy 3 times till you get it right!

We won't be at the Cape gathering because we already have plans earlier that week with our 500 Special. Go to Jacks plastic welding on google and you'll learn alot about them. They aren't cheap, but as I said, Austin Canoe and Kayak is the best place we found to purchase them. We loved them in our North Face Mini Bus 3 tent and now we love them in our teardrop!! Travel safe.

Paco Pads are waterproof as they are completely enclosed in super strong vinyl. They are easy to handle, placing in and out of the cabin, and you will have a few extra inches at the foot of the bed to place a few other items. We have our large golf umbrella inside a "mailing/poster tube" at our feet, but you'd never know it was there. We guess Paco Pads would decrease the probability of moisture build up since they can't absorb any humidity. They will be much easier to take out, wipe off, and replace inside your teardrop when needed. Have a look at the product at Jack's Plastic Welding website. They make all kinds and custom sizes too. And they make ones for your dog...Pooch Pads! Hope this helps.

How well do they breathe? Nothing worse than falling asleep in a vinyl raft...and sticking to it.

Now I know what to do to hide the dent the redwood put in my fender at IRG.

I don't know what question to answer first.
I'm beginning to really understand Cary's job!

As I said, I put a nice mattress pad around our Paco Pad's and with it in place you do not feel the "seam" of the pads..you don't fall in a crack so to speak. As for "falling asleep in a vinyl raft and sticking to it" I'd say you and your sweetie had a great time floating around in the Caribbean!! Next, I don't know where the condensation goes...we don't get much because we only have 2 windows to dry up in the mornings. Yes, it is a YETI wall mount bottle opener on the fender and that's my husband Alan opening his Guinness Black. We REALLY enjoy our 500 Special Camp Inn Teardrop!

Alan here...
Giving any set of atmospheric conditions a certain amount of condensation will form within a closed or semi-closed container, ie, camper. We chose to go with the Paco-Pads because they are completely sealed against moisture. This gives us the easy job of removing said condensation with a towel, or removing the pads for a quick drying of the interior. Since most mattresses are porous a certain amount of moisture will be held within the mattress and cannot be easily removed. Our method works well for us. As an added bonus the pads are only 27" wide, making removal easy. Plus we can remove them for a float in the sea, a bed in the sand, or a simple night of star gazing after a few beers or Irish Coffees! And then in the morning replace them back inside of the camper!
