Packing too much stuff!

One our first trip ever to get our trailer we brought everything we owned that related to camping - all packed into our little Honda CR-V. We thought it would all go in the trailer once we got it. Yes, it did all go in the trailer - on the bed. And every night, it came off the bed and had to get stowed somewhere out of the rain before going back on the bed in the morning.

As we never stayed more than one night in any place, and generally drove until after dark, we found that we hardly needed any of the stuff - especially in early winter.

We realize now that there are different kinds of trips. A roadtrip is much different than a camping trip. All that stuff would be great on an extended camping trip, but in our case just got in the way. All we needed at the end of a long day on the road was the bed.

I get accused and often made fun of because of all the stuff
I bring to gatherings. But, when someone NEEDS something, I'm usually the first one they come to to borrow from. You're absolutely correct in saying there are two different kinds of camping. On road trips where I'm only staying 1 night at each location, I don't bring all the stuff I take to gatherings. In fact, I have a carved wooden sign I hang out that says "Here today.....Down the road tomorrow"

Yep, we found out about selective packing the hard way. We find now that we try to pack most of the stuff in the car so we can find the mattress without much unloading. We always carry a tarp so we can stash some stuff under the trailer.

That's why we bought our Town & Country mini-van with the stow and go seats. All that extra room will hold so much stuff that we won't have to put much if anything on the bed. And at night anything we don't want outside will be right in the back, easy access. Plus an added option is the back two seats flip outward for 2 to sit on with the hatch open. Can't wait to get my 560!!!
