I just have this character trait (flaw?) Anything that is The Popular Thing ... I just can't. But, yeah, they are good quality -- though I won't forgive the stupid microwave!
Honeslty, I've only ever been in 1 and it was so small compared to by 6'3" frame it just wouln't work. Too short to stand, to tall to feel cozy. The other thing of course is that most of the components are still made by "Big RV" and I just do not trust the workmanship.
Now, they do use Truma combi system --- which I am trained on --- honeslty, a fantastic system. Any system though that lets you have heated floors and towel racks while burning as little fuel as it does is a plus. I doubt they put the twel rack in at Nucamp, but there are a lot of options for this system.
I'm not sure if they put the combi plus in -- that uses 120 volt.
Truma, as a company goes, is perhaps over engineered (german) but everythign I see says its well done. Even the on demand water heaters are actually designed to be repairable. Once the unit is removed from the camper, it can be completely disassembled in 20 minutes by some one who has never seen one before. If you've done a few (like their service team in elkhart) it can be done in like 8. To give an idea of how reliable it is, their phone staff, I think, has like 5 people on it...and I think 2 technicians? Tiny group of people for the size of the installed base.
In warranty --- 100% of the units that fail are sent back to them. They do a full post mortem -- and are in contact with the German engineers to improve the product.
I do not care for the degree of control boards - I'm much more a fan of things like Coleman's 12 volt signaling --- send 12 volt here, and the 120 volt compressor turns on. 12 volt here and the blower starts. EASY to diagnose. The microcontroller appracoh requires software, oscilloscopes and a EE degree. There's some advantage to relays.
And their AC's --- holy cow. Blower motors that do not have bearings - they use a magnetic field instead. Give the blower a spin by hand, get a cup of coffee and take a restroom break -- come back and the fan in still spinning. Wow... not to mention its removing more heat than an 18,000 BTU AC for about the same energy consumed as an 11k BTU.
Way off the deep end here...but that compnay has some cool stuff! None of it useable in a CI though
