Great story! This spring I bought a 24 hp diesel Kabota belly mower. I mow about seven acres and it’s 62” mower makes quick work of it.My first mower was an 18" Lawn Boy commercial trim mower that my dad bought in 1963 from my uncle who was a Chevy dealer, and who also sold Lawnboy mowers.
I used that for my lawn mowing jobs until I left home, but when I finished my schooling and was in a position to buy our first home, I got it back again. I used that mower for the next 30 years until it lost so much power that I decided it didn't owe me anything anymore. I bought a new 22" 4 cycle powered mower, and used it for about a month when I accidentally hit the large bolt that held the funnel shaped end to the culvert under our driveway, and bent the crankshaft. I needed to finish the mowing, so pulled out the old Lawnboy. I thought if I sharpened the blade maybe it wouldn't take as much power, but when I turned it on it's side to remove the blade, I noticed that the outlet of the kidney shaped muffler under the deck was completely blocked with carbon.
Those early Lawnboys required a cup of oil per gallon of gas, which is a extremely rich mixture by today's standards. Anyway after removing the two nuts that held on the lower half of the muffler, I found the inside was completely full of carbon from all of that burned oil. I spent about 15 minutes scraping all of the build-up out, put the muffler halves back together, put in some mixed gas, pulled up the choke lever, wrapped the starter rope around the flywheel (the recoil had broken years earlier with no replacement parts to be had), and it started on the second pull, and ran like new!
I used that mower until about 2010 when the newer and larger Lawnboy my dad (who had died about 7years earlier)had bought finally quit. I brought the old one back to their home so my brother and I could mow the lawn for my mom until she passed in 2015. In the meantime I had bought a new Honda powered 22" mower for our lawn, so when we sold my my mom's home and all her possessions that the siblings didn't want or need, that mower went with them. As far as I know it's still running (or least I'd like to think so), but i know it ran for 52 years for sure.

I live on Timms Hill which is usually windy but we didn’t have much wind. Only a few inches of rain.
That's incredible. Looks like that system just sat there and rained...
We've got friends who have a place near Viroqua, WI and it looks like they got their share as well. They're up in the Twin Cities so they're lucky...

I don't see a 'bumper pull' cost to get a camper on to the island --- $40 for an automobile,and then a 5'th wheel price. This looks like a really cool experience! I missed it when you posted this...
For a round trip with the teardrop it was $127 total including the 2 old farts in the car. It was a great place. Not to be confused with nearby Put In Bay, which is a big party fest from what we heard around the island. Just sayin'...

Cut the grass once all of July because of no rain. I’ve cut it 3 times in the last 6 days & I should have cut it more than that. Need a happy middle ground.

I want to see put-in-bay too -- but tahts a day trip. I'm not a crowds person.THAT is tomorrow job --- it was going to be today -- but it rained and is now growing. I'm really glad I have a "commercial" lawn mower....

Yah, not my favorite time of the year. I have to say I'm ready for some cooler temperatures to in the coming weeks, but not the gray skies and flakey white stuff, though we don't get a lot of that compared to where I grew up....or wher you are. I'm looking forward to CICO - hopefully get to meet some new people, as well as a few old friends. I'm forgoing the Crossroads of America gathering -- There was an unfortunate scheduling snafu
As for our weather, we're still in the grips of summer heat, though I think it is relenting. The days are in the mid 80s, some touching 90. But coming down. In 3 weeks those temps will be low 80s as the high. Unfortunately, the hardest time of the year to reserve camp spots
Then there is what happens next. Through October it's fine, Halloween night is usually the first night cold enough to light the pellet stove. Camping-wise, I got to revisit my beloved Brown County this past weekend, a friend and I went - Fajitas on Friday - probably the best I've ever made. We went into the village. So far it is resisting becoming a galinburg -- no silly earthquake rides and 'museums' (though, that ride is gone now). And there is more than a few really good restaurants.
This time, we went to the Big Woods Pizza company - home of Quaf On beer. I had a pulled pork with saracha slaw hoagie with a "6 foot blonde" American Pale Ale -- which went down very nicely. This is the first locatin for that restaurant who is becoming a bit of a regional star. They are now in Speedway, Indiana, near the track, as well as a couple of other locations. Its worth the stop.
I don't know what happened at Abe Martin Lodge and the "Little gem" restaurant inside. Gone ot hell in a handbasket. I've never paid $20 for a buffet line that was so bad. Eggs (attempt at a strada) were like powder dry, tasting liek protein and nothing more. Pancakes were frizby-like, Biscuits were doughy, the only thing good was the bacon, which most people would say wasn't crispy enough (I like mine 'floppy'). Frankly, it was the worst food I've ever eaten. To make matters worse, their AC wasn't working so they had a giant swamp cooler in the corner that was so loud you coulnd't hear youself think. Bad experience.
Whats coming up? CICO of course, but not much more. This coming weekend its down to Charlestown Indiana. Home of Rose Island. If you're ever here, this is a nice park. This weekened we'll be in teh "B" loop which is much more tree lined and perhaps a little unlevel. But still pretty amazing. Then I have a weekend in Charlestown again the last weekend before halloween. Frankly, I don't care to go on big weekends - too many people "partying" - I like serene and quiet much much more.

I just couldn't and can't bring myself to do it. I may put a wall drug bumper stickeron it -- just becuase, well, its wall drug I'm more apt to Vinyl cut one but that font is hand painted decades go - I'm sure I can find one close, the western theme is iconic. Not this one, but where the heck is Wall Drug variety. This was just one of my favorite things there. The cake donuts were quite fattening....I mean good.
Remind me - not my photo but one of hundreds! I've been through the badlands 3 times now I believe, and I'd like to make it 4. A few things have been added, including the statue of Sacajawea. I've also heard that the progress on Crazy Horse has been significant since I last visited. One of my customers told me that the form is now much more recognizable. I don't want to see photos., I haven't looked.
