Dave, they (Eureka) tell me the NB should be available again in a couple weeks. They assured me they're not going out of business. I asked if they had any lying around, and got transferred to their 'outlet' area. They had 1 left - and I bought it. It was 20% off, too. I'd say that route would be worth waiting for - I never knew they had an outlet store.

I went to there outlet store on my journey to CI to pick up our 560. They did not have a second in stock so sold me a new one at 20% discount worth a call all day.

They told me the same, that it was new in the box and not a second. For the 20% discount, I'd have happily bought a second, too.
 
We like our REI Alcove over the galley during the day and "scooted up" over our Fantastic Fan to keep any leaves/tree debris from falling into the fan screening at night. We use the 4 person Eureka Copper Canyon Tent/Screenroom for our "inclement weather" protection.....rain, bugs, extra shade, clothes changing area etc. We're not camping again til August 21...going to Gamble Rogers Memorial State Park at Flagler Beach, Florida and THEN we'll have 25 NIGHTS!!!!!!! Halleluiah!!!! Thank you spellcheck!
 
At our next stop, I will put it in and Mike will take some pictures of the insert.

Barry and Annie, if you can wait until next year, I'll come help you when we come to Nova Scotia. That's our current plan right now. We had so much fun here in Alaska that we decided we were going travelling again next summer. We love Nova Scotia--we spent two summers up there when we were motor homing back in early 2000.

We want to go to Newfoundland--we missed that when we had the motorhome. Mike didn't want to have to take it on the Ferry. He has Ferries down now with the Raindrop.
 
We love our PahaQue Cottonwood 10x10 shelter (the 12x12 would be great as well I'm sure). We place it over the kitchen area of our 560. What has made it even more versatile for us is the addition of using the windwall accessory on 3 sides, depending on weather conditions. The shelter assembles quickly and is extremely durable in adverse weather conditions. The design does not allow rain water to collect on the top, and it has held up in high wind conditions just fine. The material dries extremely quickly as well. We camped with it earlier this summer on a night of heavy storms with a total of 4" of rainfall in southern Minnesota - no problem. We returned last week from a trip to Colorado. Usually we also put up our side tent when camping, but for this trip just used the PahaQue. Loved that we could quickly put the windwalls up at night for privacy, and was great to have them with rainy or windy conditions. If we didn't want to take off the entire windwall, the top of the wall can be lowered to let in the sunshine.

I don't see your names on the list of CampOutt attendees.... Aren't you guys going to be there hosting a travelogue of your Awesome Alaskan Adventure?!
 
We are so bummed that we can't make it but it is Mike's 50th Class Reunion and it is the same weekend as the Camp Inn. We really enjoyed the Camp Inn Camp Out last year and were looking forward to it. Couldn't believe the class reunion got scheduled the same weekend.

We will be thinking about all you guys.
 
I think Carol mentioned that she had made 12' web straps to keep the NB square. I tried to take some pictures while we were setting up yesterday but it was raining and this was the best I could do.
Here you see one corner where we took off the rubber end of the metal spike , slipped on the the 2 straps with grommets and then replaced the rubber tip with a compression nut. I found them at a hardware store in Soldatna, AK so they should be available most places. They are the same things you use to put on the end of a kids trike or wagon. You remember Christmas Eve when you were assembling things and you had to hammer this nut on without waking the kids!

Here's a close up. I also wrapped the nut with Gorilla Tape so it would hold better and slide in and out of the pole easier.

Eureka is located in Bingham. New York.

Consider calling them and asking. I used to stop by Eureka when I was in town.

I tie the extra guy wires around the pole where the hook is and stake it down. The northern breeze will sway in the wind but it has not flown away. When it is really windy, I keep the sides rolled up for better airflow.

Hi Jenn,
We make a loop at the end of the guy wire put them on the hook then put the elastic tent loop over the top so they don’t come off. This works great for us . We have been in 25+ MPH constant winds with gusts up who knows no NB worries with guy wires.

Lessons learned from our tent surfing event;

Important steak one corner down before attempting to put the NB up in the wind. This should keep it from going airborne.

We roll the NB sides up when storing so when we were setting it up there was less sail area for the wind to catch.

We also roll the sides up if it get really windy. Especially, when we would turn in for the night.
Check your gut wires every so often if its windy. Sometimes we would find a stake coming up or one of the wires had loosened. Not a big deal just got in the habit of looking.

Last thing is in the beginning you will try to kill yourself on the trip I mean guy wires after a while you learn to give them a wide berth with no problem.

"guy wires..." wrap some red/florescent tape or Chem lights - add for lighting too.. but, as Benn said.. heheh, only takes one or two times to Learn...
 
So glad you like the NB, Jenn.

Question for you (and others): When you have the trailer mostly covered by the NB, is your trailer centered in the tent is that you can use BOTH doors? Or do you have the trailer up against one wall so that only me door is accessible, but you have more room on that other side that does open?
 
I have the NB up against the driver's side wall. I don't use that door. It gives me plenty of space on the other side for the cooler table and passage to the back of the trailer.
 
Below is a picture of how I set up the NB. I put solar lights next to the stakes for the guy ropes so I don't trip over them at night. The front wall will reach almost to the front of the 560. I use a bungee cord to connect it to the tongue and connect the corners to the door stops. This provides dry passage to the galley when it rains and lets me keep the windows open. You can also keep the fan open and on as well.
