I think he's really actually enjoying himself...

Can you imagine how good it smelled being right next door to all this great food?

Damn!

You know how you read some people's postings and think you get a feel from them who they are and what they might look like? And then you see them and find out how wrong your ideas were?

Well, I can honestly say that from George's postings, I'd have recognized him anywhere. (He may or may not have posted an actual picture of himself before, but if he did I hadn't seen it). This was my first glance, and, George, I've have picked you out of a lineup first time, every time!

You go, guy!

Oh, and PS:

I thought George would be older than I am, but now that I know his birthday was this past week, and how old he is, I can say with certainty that he's just a youngster compared to me.

But he is also a much more experienced camper. I'm just a beginner (albeit a beginner with one of those great 560's!) compared to you, George.

Jim,

When I pulled up Friday, there where two men around Georges CI. I directed my question to George, So, you are George?

Why do we know who George is without having a photo first?

I want to know why swearing is being allowed on this forum?
4 letter words like the one used in title of this thread should be banned. IMHO

Well, I dunno whether George was as glued to his TV in the 1950's as you obviously were, Steve'nEllen, (unless you've been watching modern-day DG reruns or something), but I sure was. Yep, that's got to be the offensive word. One of my favorite programs, and one of my favorite laugh lines of all time.

(And to all of you youngsters lurking out there and wondering just what the H we're talking about, "Eat your hearts out!")

Hmmm...I may be a youngster, but I did watch my share of DG, complete with Maynard G. Krebs, who didn't get too far before being shipwrecked on an "uncharted desert aisle"...I see a pattern here...lol

Well, according to the All Knowing Google:

"Maynard lived in his own world with its own twisted logic. His name was also illogical, the "G" stood for Walter. According to the show's creator, Maynard was named after his Aunt Walter who was married to his Uncle Edith. His speech was full of colorful phrases such as "You rang?" and "Like, I'm getting all misty". But Maynard G. Krebs will always be best remembered for his response whenever anyone mentioned the subject of work. He would instantaneously shudder, and let out a plaintiff cry of "WORK!?!?"

(I just cut and paste these things, so I take no credit for the All Knowing Google's referring me to a page that doesn't know the difference between 'plaintiff', a noun, and the adjective, 'plaintive').

But one can see here the answer to all three points: George's objection to that four-letter word and what the word was; Steve'nEllen's, "G stands for Walter??"; and all the youngsters out there wondering, "Who the H is Maynard G. Krebs?"

Yes, although I have to acknowledge that I was personally a huge fan of the original DG show because it struck home with me as a teenager at the time. One could (sort of) identify with Dobie, Maynard, Zelda, et al and their teenage problems of love and life. Somehow, Gilligan never caught on the same way with me. Who among us could identify with those shipwrecked misfits?

And as an aside, I remember my sheer shock and disbelief at learning that the Dobie actor was actually in his twenties. Horrors! "He acts like we do, but he's so OLD."

I am glad to hear that you could not identify with the 'shipwrecked misfits.' Someone pointed out to me in later life that each of the characters represented one of the seven deadly sins. My father wouldn't let us watch it because he said it was 'silly'. I think he understood what was really going on.
