Folding coolers?!

Holy cow! Just came across a folding cooler from Kelty. Has anyone had any experience with these? This would be pretty awesome. I am just thinking the way we camp, it would be full a the start and once it was empty, fold it up and store it. Seems pretty cool (pun intended!). :)

A few years ago I bought one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Zero-Degrees-InnerCool-Folding-Cooler/dp/B002N5DNKO/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top I'm not sure if they make it anymore. It lives in my freezer @home (folded) until I need it. and it would last through a weekend tent camping. No ice needed.

I also have some of these:http://www.amazon.com/Techni-Ice-Reusable-Packs-Special/dp/B000ZOWG62/ref=pd_sbs_sg_9 and would line that folding cooler with a couple of those for extra cooling insurance in the summer months.

We just picked up a folding cooler from Costco for under $25. It's an "Ice Cold Ultra by Artic Zone". It claims to keep food ice cold for up to 3days and has an easy access lid and holds up to 50 cans(Beer?). Also keeps food hot.Has a removable water proof liner, two net side storage compartments and a zippered enclosed flat storage in front. We are going to use it next week as a back up storage for our Coleman. Let you know how it works out when we get back.

In our area the Gander Mountain store has Yeti coolers on display. We just ordered online and received our Yeti-50 from REI with a 20% discount - can't wait to try it out!
 
Used the Artic Zone folding cooler last weekend on our trip to San Simeon. Used it with several freezer packs.Performance was not the best. After second day bottled water was just cool,not cold, but I blame that on the freezer packs. Next time we will go with block ice and I am sure it will perform much better.

Just picked up the Yeti 75. Boy it hurts to see that total on the cash register, but, much like the CampInn...buy the best and you only cry once, right?

We'll be putting it to the test here in the mild Texas afternoon heat:

Yah, I like them... probalem is I have ice left over and it's enough to put back into the freezer for next time. Problem is that it takes up room...

I got the 75 for food and stuff
a 35 for A-hem.. "Beverages of Choice"... and I'm amazed at how cold it keeps them.. had one freeze actually..

expensive, but??? worth it, last a long time...
 
Really, ice left over? What a concept! Well, I'm sure there weren't any "beverages of choice" left over! :eek:
 
Heheh, yah Dan, BoC (Bev of Choice) sadly there usually are... but the good news is that I usually bring enough for two and they still stay cold..
So life is good.. YETI's... get'em... worth it...
 
we finally went and bought our Yeti prior to vacation this year...it was really nice to have it for food storage, used the Coleman cooler in the camper for drinks.
 
Save your money on the Yeti unless you want a status symbol. I just bought a Igloo Max Cold Premium which holds 62 quarts and will (according to the manufacturer) will keep items cold for up to 6 days for $42.99 at Costco. It also has wheels and a handle that pulls up so you can tug it to your table if you want.

As far as the Dometic (I have one). I would not purchase again. I was concerned that it does not keep its temperature and was told by Camping World that up to 47 degrees is in the acceptable range when the setting is 32 degrees. In other words you can freeze the bottom and your other food will spoil. What a deal.

My advise would be to get the best cooler that will fit in the space for it and the Yeti or Igloo if you want to keep your food for days.

These are just my thoughts after 27 nites of camping with the Deometic.

Yes, fits right in (the stove area)...about an inch on each side, maybe a little less... hardest part is putting it in there, the little rubber feet stick too well..heheh can't slide it in... use a towel.

Also the side table fits right above it... not sure with a towel, but suspect it'll work fine...
 
Thanks Frank! Yeah, I made a template and it looked like it'd be tight on the front to the hatch. Nothing like using the real thing to check for clearance.
 
Yah, fits just fine... probably about the same as the Coleman cooler width-wise.. but the sticky feet it comes with will keep it secured...
I love them.. great coolers... well built to last...

I absolutely love the Dometic and will purchase another one when it stops working. Never have had a problem cooling contents regardless of ambient temps.
