A couple of years ago, we had a wet and wild May gathering and one of the campers set up his LRC - it was great! I ended up with some extra REI dividend dollars so I got a Camp Chef Sequoia (not quite as compact, but it does come with a storage bag). It sat out in the garage for a while but then we finally brought it along on our October gathering - there was a pavillion in the campground but it was supposed to be cold and wet and not a lot going on in the area.
The fire pit really saved the gathering - the weather was so crummy on Saturday, most of us probably would have ended up hanging out in our trailers otherwise. Gave off a decent amount of heat for a fairly large group - we went through maybe a full 20-lb propane tank in a long day of use at a moderately high setting. I would guess that individual/couple use would require fewer BTUs and a lot less fuel.
When we're camping by ourselves, we'll usually just set up what the backpackers at REI used to call the "Washington campfire" - our UCO candle lantern. Negligible heat, but if you like sitting around a fire, it's better than nothing.
Another trick we discovered at a sweltering Midwest gathering - if anyone has a long string of red flashing LED lights (and some kind of power source), curled up in a circle, it makes a reasonable campfire facsimile - without the heat.
