Financing a Campinn

Since many of us do not have 15 to 20 grand lying around what has been your experience in financing a Campinn. I am afraid that my local bank here in New Mexico won't know the difference between a teardrop and a lemondrop. Have you used local lenders of national RV lenders and what has been your experience. I could walk into a local RV dealership and be driving off with a $35,000 trailer by noon. It seems that the custom nature of this product as well as the lead time required to build increases the complexity of the transaction a bit. Any insight into the process would be greatly appreciated. Robbing a bank is not an option for us since the time spent behind bars would be more confining than spending the rest of my life living in a teardrop as my only home, although I am sure that option would be more pleasant.

Leo and Jane,

I financed with local bank. They only asked how much money do I want, which is a good and bad.

I have no idea what investigation they did behind the scenes, but no questions from them about Camp Inn. Of course, I bought a used unit, showed them a copy of the title.

Even though I didn't really consider a Camp-Inn to be an "RV" that's exactly what my bank called it, and they had no problem doing a standard RV loan. The only trick was that they couldn't generate a loan without a VIN #, and Camp-Inn needed a down payment to get going about 30 day before the VIN # was ready. So, our bank gave us a 0% credit card. The down payment went on this, and 30 days later when Cary knew the VIN #, the bank finalized the loan and zeroed out the credit card (with the loan) as well. If you have a good bank (or credit union) that is willing to work with you the whole thing should be a pretty standard transaction.
