Filling Fresh Tank In Camp With 10l Folding Bucket

The host was actually pretty good. I politely discussed my “error” with him which is why he was willing to say why the NPS didn’t care about bear resistant containers, everything goes in the car if you are not at the campsite: water bottles, jugs, ice chest, boxes, toiletries, etc. whether in a bear container or not. UNLESS your site has an NPS installed bear box. My heartburn is lack of consistency between parks or campgrounds. I would have taken a smaller ice chest that I could lift had I known this sites rules, and I am a stickler for rules. There is a military saying that goes “when one man poops his pants, everybody has to wear diapers”.

I think the consistency between campground hosts are as diverse as between campgrounds. We camp frequently at Salt Springs in the Ocala National Forrest which is a National Campground and see rules enforced differently depending on who is hosting. A bear was roaming in the campground during our last visit due to a camper leaving their dog food outside. The tent area has bear boxes, but the trailer side depends on campers putting everything away.

I like your style, Sweeney, cook and clean pretty much the same. If I'm boondocking someplace dry I figure the desert plants appreciate my gray water... and a remote gravel road works too.

I understand that some FL parks now wont let you dry camp if you even have gray or clean water tanks...so we are competing with the Tin Wall Monsters for scarce spots...too bad!

Talking with one ranger, apparently the new COVID campers and vanlifers weren't careful enough with their gray and blackwater...and those places close to watercourses have a bigger responsibility...

Seeing same on some dispersed camping areas closed or policed more out west. Hope to be hitting the road to FL again and may see the trend, and will provide reviews...teardrop hideyholes.

I'm all about the simple and conservation. Mostly because I'm just too lazy to go fill the bladders :) --- That reminds me, its time to order a new set...my old ones were a little nasty.

I'm pretty reliant on state parks --- which means having to fight for space and plan far ahead. Florida has kind of excluded itself from any long term plans, or even camping plans --- its just too hard to get a spot there. If I move there, I don't want to be fighting with every northerner for a site. Though Van was telling me that Florida is shortening the window for non-residents, to give residents "first crack" at spots. But even at that, I can barely tell you what I'm doing in 6 days, let alone months...

Not a ranger, a camp host, per OP.
Not a citation, a notice, per OP.
Not a fine by ranger/law enforcement, a public education effort.

My own interpretation is not politics, just a sloppy camp host.

Why… Power tripping? Exhaustion & frustration? Just following the protocol that doesn’t distinguish cooler types when handling out notices? Tired of dealing with a public which always has reasons & rights? Hard to say.

My response would probably be somewhat uncharitable. If the notice is a courtesy left on a sticky note to my camper door, fine. I don't expect them to visit me. In fact, I'd prefer they don't. But if I spoke to anyone and sensed "hostility" that's when there'd be a problem.

Customer service is my business. If I sense hostility, I'd be forced to educate them on what good service is. That can mean education. If you've had to educate 100 people today and you're tired of it...then you need a new job, because that would be the 1st education you've given me, and I deserve the same level of service you gave the 1st education too. I've seen people walking small dogs near ponds in Florida. Some people just do not know.
