Dual Receiver Hitch for bike rack

fpoole,
Evan explained that linking images, like you and I tried to do in this thread, will work everywhere on the forum EXCEPT here in the 'General Photo Gallery'. I wasted a bit of time trying to get mine to work, too.

The bike rack that I use actually utilizes a bolt mechanism that mates to the hitch and actually turns it into a solid piece in that it does not use the conventional hitch pin which does allow for some sway. I now understand the reasoning. Fortunately my particular installation's wobble index is proportional to the inherent tortional flex of the receiver and the bike rack. Since it is a solid piece with the bolt installed it hardly moves. I believe that there is a product out there called the Hitch Hiker that operates on a similiar principle.

We have done the same thing with the double decker and the extension. I would highly recommend you try out these "locking silent hitch pins" to avoid all the squeaks. They work great to avoid the slop in the connections. I tried to find 3 with the same key number but have only found two so far, still looking for a third to match.

Has anyone used the dual hitch receiver with a basket instead of the bike rack. Looking for ways to carry stuff I don't want inside, like firewood and a portable grill. Thought a basket might be a good solution. I just bought a used 560 so I am new to this forum but interested in other experiences.

I'd love to hear the latest re taking a bike along.

I don't want to mount a roof rack on the TV, as it's too hard to take an old mountain bike off the roof. Too heavy.

We are planning a trip to Utah in August, and I am debating bringing my bike. I guess I coud rent locally, but I'd still need to move the bike from one locale to the next....I think.

We found an inexpensive two bike carrier at Walmart that attaches to the hatch on our Toyota 4Runner. I can't be certain of the brand, but it might be Allen. It has worked out well, and is compact for storage. I believe the cost was around $50.00.

Does it bother you to not have use of the hatch when the bikes are on?

I know that each approach has its tradeoffs. I've not figured out the pluses and minuses of each approach.
