Dinosaur Provincial Park

Dinosaur Provincial Park – UNESCO World Heritage Site (Dinosaur - Dinosaur Provincial Park | Alberta Parks)

- About 2.5 hours east of Calgary… note this is a little north of Brooks and not close to another famous dinosaur locale in Alberta --> Drumheller & the Royal Tyrrell Museum (but Drumheller is totally worth a trip also)

full

- 126 sites (many powered)

- Vault toilets in campground – running water (toilets/shower) at concession building

- There are trees, but also some sites much more exposed – I prefer to have trees; could/would bake in sun without trees

(the younger boy on his strider bike, but view of campground)

- Went in shoulder season daytime highs ~ mid 20 C overnight low ~ low 10’s C – so didn’t need power for AC – would likely want power (AC) during warmer months

- Alberta Parks reservation system is 90 day in advance rolling booking window ({{vm.social.metaData.title | translate:vm.social.dynamicData}}) - in the reservation system, when you eventually select a possible site there are generally site pictures and a 360 degree panorama to give you a good idea of what it looks like before you book

- Small-medium length hikes (interpretive) walking from campground we did the Badlands Trail, which was absolutely beautiful, and the Trail of the Fossil Hunters which was, maybe, a little less scenic (just) but takes you to literally where dinosaur fossils were found and in fact has both a replica bone bed fossil display and a real bone bed fossil display

full

(some of the badlands (Badlands Trail) overlooking the campground (tree'd area))

- Attended amphitheater show (Ironstone Man) which was an interpretive show geared to children about how the badlands formed – was great!

- Too much else to see and do - will return

Edit: spelling and added comment/details about being able to see pictures/panorama of sites in Alberta parks reservation system

Thanks Christine... I find one's second visit to a particular campground is generally better than the first; "Oh that loop was much nicer." "Wish I had known X"... that sort of thing

If can help give a better sense of the place, maybe can help maximize the first trip. And by posting here, if someone is considering a visit - would be happy to try to answer any questions.
