Curtains Need Replacing

We decided it was time to replace the curtains in our CI. We live in what once a textile hub and there still is some textiles here. One place is warehouse that opens one weekend a month to the public. This was the weekend since last weekend had the 4th on Friday. They have just about any type of fabric you could want there, indoor, outdoor, denim, wool, vinyl, fleece, etc. You can buy remnants they sale by the pound, by the yard. You can shop online & if you are buying larger quantities, there is a wholesale side too. I’ll post links at the end.

We found some with a camper print (see pics) and also grabbed the blackout material there to put behind it. Our koozie for our cooler has a damaged corner from the dog. We grabbed a yard of quilted muslin to patch it for now. Mary Ellen will be doing the sewing, not me.

A lot people get fabric here if they are having furniture reupholstered.

Your camper fabric is perfect!
What a store. My head would explode. Metaphorically speaking.
My mother and a couple of my aunts go just about every month. Small jobs like recovering seats my mother can do and she likes doing it. She’s become the family upholstery person.

We had hoped to find something in the remnants where you pay by the pound. Couldn’t find anything we liked that would work with enough fabric. Almost missed this, we only saw it when we walked by from the opposite direction.

You know, that walking in the opposite direction is a thing.

Sliding off topic here.... groceriy stores are set up to funnel you in a particular direction. Sometime go at it from the opposite way from what you would do normally.

Even in a forest do that. Interesting what you see by walking opposite to what you tend to do.

Yes, our hike in NM was an out/back trail. Normally try to avoid, but this was really different going in the opposite direction.

Always good to check your back trail once in awhile while hiking...landmarks look different.
And in Cougar country you may see one stalking you...

Lurking things: a couple days ago I was in a forest, leaving a little Cairn of rocks at the base of a tree to say that I had been there, and did that and walked probably 30' to my car and got in and looked at the tree in the left side mirror and there were 2 big deer with their noses down at what I had put there. I hadn't seen them. It's always amazing to me how deer, and other animals, are so big but move so quietly and live a life that only they control. I've been in forests with bear around that i knew of, doing the same stealth thing. and certainly animals I never saw.

A humble thank you for that heads up.

UR welcome...a deer hunter in the western mtns lion country taught me ...also check the culverts that stick out next to USFS roads uphill side, low oak branches over the trail...

There was a solo hiker ambushed in so CA state park a few years back. And a couple gals on mtn bikes who were jumped- had to bash the cat with a bike to let go...a guy on a bike killed in Orange Cty CA mtn trails...
Fires and loss of habitat has pushed them into suburbs and nearby open space...

Just to go even further OT...

Say, are the owls are on the move...?

Ya. Are the big cats on the uptick? Are we hearing more about them?

Love the owl video!

I was in a park in Florida and there was a massive owl, sleeping or watching, on a big branch out in the open. It was there all day.

So mysterious to hear two owls calling back and forth at night, across a large area.

Habitat loss due to development and wildfire pressure pushes them out of the foothills and the sick and older cats find easier prey among feral domestic cats, urban coyotes...loose dogs...

Great book on this, about similar trend in Boulder-Denver area awhile back:

Anyhoo...sorry to go OT on the OP...
Back to curtains:

I gotta hole worn in side window curtain from my experiment carrying the Dometic inside CI cabin, staying cool plugged in there vs under galley hatch on 115 degree ambient driving down the highway.

Worked good in freezer mode but not enough tie downs and the Donetic tended to wander some...couple rubs on the wall too- need me some of that special interior varnish, Cary if you happen to see this, can sell a little can for touchup or recommend compatible off the shelf at HomeCheapo.

Do we have any crafty seamstresses who can make replacements to OEM? Different fabbric? Brighten things up same time?

Thats worth $$$ to those of us without the skiz...unless The Nest has them in stock...mail order.

Hmmm. I just spent some time with RVgeek on an electrical consult...why not FabrikGeekster/stress ?

Last time I tried to talk the tent maker at CampInn into a custom cutout for my ScreenRoom they were booked out to 2030 so thats another need to fill...
You need curtains or a cover for the dometic?

Side door window curtains that fit a 2010 570 ultra. With the stretchy cord included if possible.
Cary has a big bin of curtains. I needed 2011 door curtins a few years back and he had them. Are 560 doors diff from 550s? I dont know what the stretchy cord is. I'm guessing that Mary Ellen is a good resource. I sew but.....oh, wow, I dont carry a sewing machine.

Sorry this is off topic for curtins.....we need a book thread....(see how i tied that into curtins?)!

We made these ourselves only because we wanted some color. You can buy the strips with the sliders on Amazon:
RV Designer A115, Clear Glide Tape #9, 1/2 inch Glides, 72 inches, Window Covering Hardware https://a.co/d/g3ThIfi
They are not lined. Just have to be very precise about copying the existing ones exactly. Used a fairly heavy fabric.

Thanks, Rutger- very stylish! Love your craftsmanship on liquor cabinet and led lights too!

PS: Cary replied to my email on another DIY that I am doing and
OBTW also said the fabric curtain bin Jenn recalls is now empty and
paying the Campinn seamstress is $$$100's iirc...
but they do have the plastic glides in stock for DIYers...modders.

So I've bookmarked your post for reference,
Appreciate you!

Tha fabric is perfect....wish I had known I'd have had you pick up a few yard for me ;) There's nothing wrong with the curtins from CI --- simple is fine. But they are a little small for the windows, and you get into the tug here, expose there --- tug there, expose here game. A few inches more would be nice :D Reminds me of putting on the suit I wore in 2015.
