Comfy Bed

I'm not sure if this is "Other Gear and Equipment" or if it's better described as a "Tips and Tricks", but I'll put it here and let a moderator move it if I've guessed wrong.

As a warning--none of the three things I've added have been through the wringer, I just think it'll work for me, and how I camp; and maybe it'll spark an idea for others. As a bit of background... sleep is good. reading in bed is good. a comfy bed is one of the reasons I upgraded from a tent. Since I have this new found luxury... I'm taking full advantage. Below is my 'mattress layers', and where I bought them. drymesh.net is meant for boats (and rvs) to help with condensation under the mattress; then there's the mattress, then...because I'm spoiled rotten and I know it (because I spoil myself), a wool mattress topper. I felt that for me; it's better than memory foam. Then to top it off is an upholstery grade slipcover. I'm hoping that the slipcover will be more durable / more forgiving of dirt than simply a fitted sheet. Slipcovershop.com will sent you samples of their material for you to find the one you like. I asked for 4 samples, and did end up picking a material and pattern I originally thought wouldn't be my first choice.

This is what my bed looks like; (blankets are at the foot of the bed)

Completely forgot one of the layers. In between the mattress and the wool topper is a twin-size 12volt bunk warmer. Bought it off of amazon.com

Yep, sounds about right.
I had an LLBean wool Sheep skin (whatever it's called) pad but you might find the Heat pad doesn't come thru enough. I switched to the foam pad and the idea was that when you lie on it, you would be closer to the heat. Heat rises so work it for a while just to make sure.
Heat pad is too rough and probably too hot to just put a sheet over it, I think the a good thick mattress pad would be ideal. but I use the 2 inch foam.. not the most comfy, but it's still a work in progress... so do post your findings...
There's always a different way to do it....
fun...

Yes, I love it!

Confession time: I went in it last night to put away the dedicated-to-the-tear towel I had laundered; and 'I'll just lay down for a minute'. Ermm... not sure how many minutes it ended up being.

Sherry we got our mattress cover from the same company and it is really holding up well - even with our dog. I took my roomba out today and ran it around on the cover - picked up all the Arizona sand we got on our Easter break - really worked nice. Your bed discription and pictures are great.

Mike and Carol we got ours in the queen size there are some pictures in the pic gallery from 6/2/10 (title our first camp out). The depth of the cover is sized for a normal mattress so it is a little loose but we figured sometime we might want a mattress topper and that would tighten it up. However they do also make custom covers.

It is queen, and yes, it's a bit loose. Not horribly loose, but not tight. Still its really close to being as comfy as the bed inside the house!
