I had not planned on buying a truck so soon as I was hoping to wait another year or two so I could save up some money and pay cash instead of financing. It was a bit higher than I wanted to go and I probably could have pushed them a little further but I was in between a rock and hard place.
My previous truck (2001 GMC Sierra) had been having issues. I had a coolant leak somewhere that I could not find. It was also losing oil (which I thought I fixed but didn't). To top it off, in the middle of this T-giving camping trip, it started leaking transmission fluid. I think a rock may have put a small crack in the transmission pan.
With all these issues going on and a 1000 miles between me and home, I just did not trust it and I did not want to get stuck out in the desert on my way back to Austin.
So, I was able to get the dealer to give me enough on the trade in that I would have been able to sell it for private party.
At least now, I got a truck that will give me better gas mileage on the way home and will not leave me stranded.
I had two dealers competing and got them to a point where one said he just could not get there. By one account, the dealer lost $1800 on the deal by another they broke even. Kinda kicking myself a little for not pushing just a bit further but I will have to live with the deal I got which was not too bad.

Heheh, ya, trying to get them down in price is an art unto itself. And even then, they made something on it.

Replace engine at 175k miles then trans started acting up, then yada-yada-yada.... wherever I looked, it was in need of repairs, the expensive kind, headliner sagging etc... so finally traded it in for a 2010 Chev Colorado. so 21yrs with it, it did well and sad to part with it, but lesson learned, you'll have to get a new one in time.
I'm looking at a diesel this time, but suspect the same thing will happen eventually... Luckily or unluckily, heheh, this new one should be my last...

Yep, we were at 183K on our old truck. Motor was still strong just too many issues creeping up.
Oh well, at least we onto our next adventure with this new truck.
