Better Late Than Never Thanksgiving On North CA Coast

Unless my better half has already done this (if so, ooops!), I thought I’d late post some pics from the last trip we did in 2025 to Westport, CA on Thanksgiving. It was beautiful, chilly, and a destination that more people had in mind than we expected. Still, was a nice trip. Although, due to an accident on Hwy 1 we had to take a detour on a road best described as a game trail… A lot of larger rigs were not allowed to take the detour so they had to wait who knows how long? Yea, Tiny Camper!

We took on of those detours once with ours --- my GPS gave me bad directions...and the road kept getting narrower and narrower....I had to back up about 1/8 of a mile before I found space in the road wide enough to allow a 27 point turn :)

Fun!!! I’m sure your four letter word vocabulary was on display (or perhaps I’m just projecting my own venting technique? )

We went to Assateague Island in Maryland for Thanksgiving years ago. Last minute trip when the weather was unseasonably warm. It was beautiful and I would do it again. They allow deer hunting on the island so the deer hunters came in the day after but I still think it was one of our better trips. At the time, the state park did not allow dogs so we were at the federal campground with cold showers. We used a sun shower bag we filled with heated water to take showers and did fine. Now the state park allows dogs so I would camp at the state park with hot showers.

Yup, that's how I learned not to bungee up the trailer jack handle to keep it safe from road debris.....instead it punched a hole through my bumper cover when I jackknifed the TD trying to back around on a narrow road.

Magikal!

Reminds me. Before I entered teardrop world, I visited Jade Cove in California's Big Sur. (This is a rare spot where you can find true natural jade in the U.S. -- if you're lucky. Was easier in decades past. But I remember there's a very nice campground right near there on the coast -- Plaskett Creek Campground. Never actually camped there but it was pretty sweet looking. And probably a challenge to get booked. But it's on my list. (Didn't find any jade last time I was there -- but found a shitload of pale green rocks that got me all excited. But it was some kind of soapstone.
