I have been looking at various awnings and followed some of the posts on here. The consensus seems to be for a rear awning preferable of the Easy Up Type.

I know that you can get these with Fly screens and sides for weather protection. How easy are they to pack away with these attached and can they be easily tied back out of the way.

I have an old pole awning with fly screens that slide along the pole but I know ther Easy Up Types don't have this pole.

Also does anyone have any alternative suggestions for another type of quick awning. I would be interested to here how much protection the rear hatch gives in inclement weather and if I wanted to stop at say a truck stop and use the galley I would not want to put up an awning.

When you get to the outing at MiTeJo this weekend there will be several options to see. We have 2 side tents for our 560 and a screen room that covers the back galley that has the panels that allow you to enclose it. You can't see much of the trailer when it is all set up but it sure is nice when the weather is less than perfect.

Barry, quite a few owners here like the screen room.
I've never used it, but I do have a 10x10 by QuickShade.

A major disadvantage with some models of EasyUp and FirstUp brands is that the covers have to be completely removed from the frame for storage. With the Quickshade you can leave the cover on, so it only takes about 1 minute to set it up. The side walls or screen walls go on separately and take 3 to 5 minutes - depending on 1 person or 2.

If there is no wind, the rear hatch will keep most of the rain out of the kitchen - but you still get wet.
When it's windy the kitchen gets wet too.

We went to a gathering with about 30 tears and it rained the whole time. Although no pop-ups were alike, EVERYBODY had one. One kind or another is a must.

Our EZ Up allows the top to stay on when folding it up for storage. My complaint with it is the difficulty of putting it up by myself...all 5'0" of me...lol

My 1st up is currently put away in its bag with the cover on the frame. Also I have the sides in the bag as well. If it is up and going to be windy, I use the anchor ropes and I also lower the top as low as it will go to reduce the profile.

So far my 1st Up has performed well.

We use a Northern Breeze. It takes a little more time to set but it is more than an eze-up. If you search the forum you can find some good info on the Northern Breeze. We also use an eze-up for quick shelter.
