It's Brian Slaughter...looks like you're Steve Bixler. Guess I haven't been on here for a while! We've got about 40 nights in our 550 in the last year...so far so good. You still have yours?!

    Dometic In Bear Country

SnoMaster does not currently have a fridge that fits in the galley due to height, though new shorter sizes are coming so I will test and report back when available. (US import lead happens to be in my city)

    Mileage While Towing

2013 4Runner lifted with off-road tires I get 15.4 towing, about 19 when I'm not towing. Your 4 cylinder probably has to work harder.

    San Juan Islands

Deception Pass State Park on Whidbey is a must IMO. I grew up boating up there, and would anchor for a night in Bowman Bay before heading north. Woke one morning to a pod of orcas passing by off the stern. It's a place I always take visitors...many good memories.

    Dometic, or another brand?

Just by the nature of our trip, we'd never gone more than 30 hours without starting our TV. I've heard others go several days with the Snomaster. It has a built in battery monitor and will cut off the fridge if the battery gets below a level you select. That never happened to us, but if it...

    Dometic, or another brand?

We keep a Snomaster classic series fridge in the TV...along with the other reasons noted, we like it in the TV because all our cold food/drink is already packed in the car when we go on daily excursions. We got a 60L, so no chance of it fitting in the CI! :)

Custom Strap Handles for the Dometic Refrigerator

On my kayak they are just under 7" apart, but that allows for a lot of space between the handle and the kayak. I suspect you could go to about 9"+ if you didn't need as much space between the handle and the fridge.

    Battery Booster And Air Compressor

I would recommend testing this in your driveway, measuring the battery accordingly. I follow off road overlanding groups that use Dometic in the back of their Jeeps, 4Runners, FJ's, etc with no issue for multiple day/week trip. I use a fairly large Snomaster CL60 fridge that's direct...

WANTED Where Can I Find a Used Camp Inn?

They don't come up too often, so you have to keep looking at Craiglist nationally, eBay (how I got mine), and this site where you're likely to see the most. If you really want a used one, be prepared to strike quickly and very possibly out of state. I'm in Austin Texas and felt lucky one...

    Dometic In Bear Country

Provided you keep a clean galley free of food other than what's in the fridge and nothing particularly odorous, and a clean campsite, I personally would feel safe leaving it in a locked galley. A determined bear won't care if it's in the galley or your trunk...they'll get in. If it's a...

Announcement Just Sent Our Final Check

I'm a year ahead of you. My kids wondered why we were so quickly having so much fun. I reminded them for the first time in 20 years we don't have ballet class/recitals, soccer games, football games and other events of theirs to attend...our weekends were now ours! They liked what we were...

    550 / 560 Spare Tire

The only reason the type of tire matters is a car tire will give you a more obvious sign of a leak...you can visually see the tire is low by the sag/pooch in the tire. A trailer tire has more solid sidewalls, so you may not have a visual warning. You're right, the outcome can be the same...

First Time Caller, Long Time Listener

I tow with a 4Runner, which has a lot of similarities to the FJ. That engine isn't exactly the strongest in the world, but it's fine for any Camp Inn. I got 15.6mpg on a recent 3600 mile trip into AZ, UT, CO from Austin, TX. On the highway, I move the shift gear from D over to the manual...

    Oly's custom additions to 560

I don't need it to store my equipment, just a thin flat slide out that would take 1/2"- 3/4" of knee space. Router out a groove so my ipad can set in and not slide off. More similar to rrunneals, but could probably be even thinner. We currently just drop the storage hatch open and my wife...

    550 / 560 Spare Tire

Discount tire didn't inflate mine to maximum cold pressure either, which surprised me and cause me to question what's right. I think there's a general lack of clarity on what to do, so individual installers do what they think is safe. I towed a 6600lb boat from Austin, TX to Lake Powell, UT...

    Oly's custom additions to 560

Would love to see CI create a simple slide out shelf like that for iPads and laptops!

    550 / 560 Spare Tire

It's important for trailer tires to be properly inflated given the amount of bouncing that occurs, which creates heat. Trailer Tires will appear fully inflated vs. the sag you see on an under inflated car tire because the side walls are much stiffer. But if you drive with them under inflated...

    Long Haul For #864

Sounds like a great trip! We recently returned from our Not Quite a Long Haul which was amazing. New sense of what the CI is capable of!

    Powder Coated Propane Tank

Wish I had seen this. I just painted mine with 4 coats of silver and two coats of clear. We'll see how long it lasts!
