Ford Fathom haz a kewl capability

The Postman

Ranger
For you EV fans, handy backup when TSHTF

Still range limited as a tow vehicle but a handy runabout and if they CAN make it for sale at $30k it might enjoy the initial success on the Maverick...

Using your vehicle battery as a power source is a bad idea. The one significant thing that gets used up (besides tires) in an EV is the battery; it has a limited number of charge/recharge cycles before needing an expensive replacement. Using those cycles to not operate the vehicle shortens its lifetime without the benefit of the primary use of a vehicle - getting somewhere. Sure for occasional use in an emergency it's a very useful tool, but it shouldn't be used on a regular basis. If you need batteries for a power source it is better to install a dedicated system for that use.

Having said that, the truck actually sounds like a decent alternative.

I just saw a video last night about a bezos startup making

at that price, and 200 miles -- might be a good alternative for a runaround. Towing is potentaily available up to 2000 lbs --- enough for a trip to a close park...dunno...maybe?

The fact we're seeing cars that are in the affordable range is wonderful to see.

Let me know when you actually see them sold and on the road at that price, not just manufacturers talking about them. Anybody remember the $20K Maverick truck?

Heh.

I remember the $10,000 Saturn! One of the best cars I've EVER owned.
Both are taking preorders...frankly, I don' tknow why, I trust slate better. Ford so utterly and completely foobar'd themselves...I wont' trust them again. maybe ever. Same for the others in the big 3.

Stelantis and GM are both just as bad. Maybe worse.

I don't think either of these are suitable campinn tow vehicles. 200 miles range is pretty ... optimistic I am sure. I saw James May drive on yesterday. To me, it comes down to price. $25000 (probably more by the time I'm done -- I'd want a toneau cover etc. If I get 150-200k miles out of it, thats about what I'd expect for a gas vehicle, and considering it would be a grocery getter and MAYBE a tool hauler..It might work!

Lets see if it actually comes out --- there may be one of those inmy front yard as a business vehicle.
