Time To Replace The Battery

That isn't a bad solution at all -- the deltran charger gave me grief too. I was very disappointed with the way it worked overall :(

The Genius chargers are quite good. They also have the built in ability to "kickstart" a completely dead battery as well as to 'repair' batteries. I completely flat-lined my battery (0% state of charge) twice and ran the repair cycle and it seems to have done some good -- my battery still works as good as I would expect.

I'm really happy with my Genius, even though it is no in use on my camper...

Just FYI, the Victron 100ah fit in the battery compartment of my 560 #701 without any modification. Not sure if the size of the compartment may have changed over time.

Yes, as the time went on, and customers started wanting more, and longer lasting power, CI increased the size of the standard battery from about a 33AH to I believe a 72AH battery. I'm not sure what number unit that started, but our 550 Ultra #174 came with the smaller one, so a bit of modification was required for the Victron 100AH to fit into the battery compartment, it is possible, but you will find out how well these TD's are built!

I replaced my failed OEM 2010 era 120vac onboard battery charger with a
Noco Genius5 charger, mounted on the battery compartment access cover for easier access for monitoring.

The Noco is also capable of charging AND maintaining flooded cell, AGM and Lithium batteries with automatic maintenance mode.

Its available at auto parts stores and Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/NOCO-GENIUS5...ix=noco5+genie+battery+charger,aps,279&sr=8-3

I replaced the old cooked 2.5 year old flooded cell marine deep cycle with a Diehard Platinum 70ah AGM dual/starter battery, off the shelf from Advance Auto.

I added marine terminal adapter connectors to the Diehard single auto terminals. This allows me the flexibility of extra connections with more choices in plain auto batteries available off the shelf,

and to easily remove the battery charger for use elsewhere, and to remove battery for maintenance out of the CampInn when in long term storage

Thanks to Mike of M&L for the Noco tip, and as always and once again kudos and thanks to Cary for step by step guidance on using the trouble-shooting guide in owners manual,

and to Craig for patiently coaching me on phone on "how to modify the wiring" to relocate the battery charger.
Notice the old "Marine" battery terminals are on opposite side of typical auto battery terminals, so the auto battery terminals are a tight fit against the outer wall in battery compartment.

Yes, marine batteries typically used to power trolling motors on boats usually have lower CCA ratings (cold cranking amps) than auto batteries; which need the higher CCA to start cold auto engines.

I chose AGM vs flooded cell as I do bounce around more than average on dispersed camping USFS or BLM access roads, and the sealed gel contruction of AGM is less prone to breakage.

I want the simplicity of being able to get a new battery in an auto parts store if needed on the road, vs wait for shipping on a UPS style battery. I actually purchased a Victron style battery at Batteries Plus but there was a problem with it, and after waiting three weeks for promised replacement to be delivered from warehouse, cancelled the order.

Super nice people, great service but supply chain issue on non-standard size batteries, they said. So, KISS for now.
I'm waiting on The Nest to offer the new heated lithium battery upgrade that fits the compartment without modifications.
