Daily Miles Driven?

We are making the trek from Alaska to the Midwest this summer. I’ve yet to actually plan out the route stop by stop .....(

this year will be different. I’m reserved out until august...places are full already because of the huge number of peop”e buying RVs. Boom times...bad for us who’ve been camping for almost a decade....

although it does make for better Friday night entertainment as the n00bs back their trailers in and Sunday when they leave with their awnings out

And that's just another factor I'll be dealing with, since I cannot book anything ahead of time. It will be quite the challenge trying to plan stops with only 24 hours lead time.

Will be much easier on weekdays than weeekends, that’s for sure. You should factor that in your planning John.

Thanks Randy. I'm counting on that for some help. But I will be gone long enough that I will have to cross probably at least 3 weekends. Traveling for the first time with a trailer and in the unprecedented environment we are currently in, does make for some concerns. But at the same time I'm looking forward to winging it and making stay or go decisions along the way.

Yah, when we started camping in '12 or so, we stay mostly at state parks, cost about $20 a night and you could get a site with a week or two notice except for holiday weekends and big tourist areas. Or on cross coutnry trips you could usually find a spot after a few phone calls. Sure has changed. I'm still reeling from the fact I am planning weekend getaways in August and finding many sites already reserved.

I wonder how things will unfold as gas prices go north of $3-$4 again. 7 MPG doesnt' leave much from for "affordable" vacations

Looking on Mapquest it looks to be about 2000 miles and 28 hours of driving from SoCal to central Wisconsin. I would plan about 3 days to get there and take our time coming home. We were from Azusa and in our younger days would normally drive the 1250 miles over 2 days to see family after we moved to North Idaho. Being retired now my wife doesn't care for the long days and pulling a trailer we like to normally stop about 3:30

Yes, I'm planning 3 days @ 700 miles/day to get there. Although, that's more than I usually drive in a day any more.

Weekdays don't seem to be a problem at least in the heartland. I can generally find some place on short notice (few minute ) on Sunday evening through Friday morning. But Friday - Sunday is amateur hour.

Sunday night through Thursdays are generally open. Its Friday through Sunday that is the problem. So if you plan your weekends, you can have a lot of flexibility the rest of the week. You still have to pay through the nose but you've got options.
